Why is violence against Asian-Americans on the rise? | Inside Story

 Here is the link.

Asian-Americans are demanding action on what they're calling a pandemic of racism. Six women of Asian descent were among eight people shot dead at massage parlours near Atlanta. Asian-Americans have reported increased attacks since the start of the pandemic. But historians point to a long history of sentiment against Asians in American society. So can anything be done to stop the hate?

The David Rubenstein Show: Dennis Muilenburg

March 21, 2021

Here is the link.

Aug.08 -- Boeing CEO Dennis Muilenburg talks to David Rubenstein about how he went from growing up a farm in Iowa to running Boeing, and he describes the future of air travel, including two-hour trips between any cities in the world. The interview was taped in Washington on May 9.

Ex-CEO Dennis Muilenburg | Net Worth | BA stock research

March 21, 2021

My notes:

  1. Over $15 million in salary in 2016
  2. As of January 2019, Dennis Muilenburg owned 130,000 shares of Boeing which have a pre-tax market value of $40 million
  3. He earned $23.4 million in total compensation for 2018
  4. When he earned $23.4 million in 2014, roughly $20.4 million was a mix of bonus and stock options.

 Dennis Muilenburg Net Worth:

$100 Million

Dennis Muilenburg net worth and salary: Dennis Muilenburg is an American businessman who has a net worth of $100 million. Dennis Muilenburg was born in Orange City, Iowa in 1964. He formerly served as the president, chairman, and chief executive officer of The Boeing Company. Muilenburg took over the role of CEO in July 2015. He was fired on December 23, 2019 in wake of Boeing's 737 Max crisis. He had already been stripped of the chairman title and all but his base salary of compensation.

He graduated from Iowa State University and the University of Washington. Dennis Muilenburg made just over $15 million in salary in 2016. He began working at Boeing in 1985 and has held various management and engineering positions with the company including vice president of the Boeing Combat Systems division and president and chief executive officer of Boeing Defense, Space & Security. After becoming CEO in 2015 he would become chairman and then chairman of the board of directors in 2016.

As of January 2019, Dennis Muilenburg owned 130,000 shares of Boeing which have a pre-tax market value of $40 million. That made him one of the four largest individual shareholders of the company. He earned $23.4 million in total compensation for 2018. For 2019 he likely earned just his base salary which amounts to around $3 million. When he earned $23.4 million in 2014, roughly $20.4 million was a mix of bonus and stock options.

Upon being fired from Boeing, it was revealed that Dennis would be allowed to walk away with $18.5 million worth of exercised stock options and $62 million worth of pay and pension benefits for a total exit package north of $80 million. By comparison, Boeing set aside $50 million to compensate family members of 737 crash victims.

RIG stock: bankruptcy concern | Debt | My last purchase | Next purchase

 March 21, 2021

Introduction

I have to train myself to learn and read better on Yahoo -> Finance -> Financials. I like to go over those statements and then compare those data shown in the article.

My study

30 minutes drill

I like to spend at least 30 minutes to go over Financials of RIG stock by myself.

Transocean

Let's face it, the thesis that ultra-deepwater offshore drilling would be the future of the oil industry has proven to be completely false. And companies like Transocean, which committed billions of dollars to the effort, are paying the price.

Revenue has stagnated as management has just tried to keep rigs busy, and losses have mounted over the last three years with no end in sight.

The trends going forward don't look good either. Oil prices are remaining stubbornly low and offshore drilling rig activity has plummeted in 2020. And Transocean has $8.3 billion of debt hanging over the company.

To be fair, Transocean does have $1.83 billion of cash on the balance sheet, but it also has a lot of obligations this year. $652 million in debt due in 2021 and a total of $1.1 billion will be needed to pay back debt and pay interest charges. On top of that, the company has $1.3 billion in newbuild obligations due in 2021. That cash will dry up quickly if the offshore drilling markets don't improve quickly.

The oil markets are in trouble amid the transition to electric vehicles, and that will continue to put pressure on oil prices. That ends up hurting companies like Transocean, which may be in bankruptcy court before an oil recovery ever comes.

First I like to look into debt, Financial -> Balance sheets

8.3 billion of debt hanging over the company.

I found the item called Total Debt: 8,373,000, which is 8.37 billion dollars.

Cystic Fibrosis Nursing | Cystic Fibrosis Symptoms, Causes, Treatment, NCLEX Review

March 21, 2021

Here is the link.

Cystic fibrosis NCLEX nursing review: Cystic fibrosis is a genetic disorder that causes the exocrine glands to work incorrectly. This can lead to major complications that affect the respiratory, digestive (pancreas, liver, intestines), integumentary, and reproductive systems along with the sinuses. What are exocrine glands? These are glands that produce and transfer it’s secretions (ex: mucous, tears, sweat, digestive enzymes) via DUCTS to it’s intended area of the body rather than directly into the bloodstream like the endocrine glands. In cystic fibrosis, there is a gene that is mutated that prevents the exocrine gland from working properly. It is called the CFTR gene! The CFTR gene, which stands for cystic fibrosis transmembrane regulator, is a protein that controls the channels of sodium and chloride. Hence the sodium and water transport in and out of the cell, and these channels are within the membrane of the cells that makes our sweat, mucous, tears, and digestive enzymes. However, in CF these channels don’t work properly. Therefore, normally these channels would properly regulated sodium and water transport in and out of the cells, which helps control the flow of water within these structures among other things. But this is not what happens in a person with cystic fibrosis. The mucous is thick and sticky rather than thin and slippery. This mucous will block the airways in the lower respiratory system and block the pancreatic duct from delivering pancreatic enzymes. In addition, the sweat glands produce excessive amounts of salt. CF tends to affect Caucasians and males more. The current median life expectancy of a person with cystic fibrosis is 37 years of age (source: NIH.gov). It is currently diagnosed with a sweat test where pilocaprine and electric current is delivered to the skin to make it sweat. The amount of salt in the sweat is measured. Results 60 mmol/L or more is considered positive for CF. Nursing interventions to cystic fibrosis include: chest physiotherapy (chest PT), monitor for complications, educating about PEP devices, preventing infection, administering medications and more (see the video for a detailed review of the nursing interventions)

TBIO stock: 囊性纤维化

TBIO stock:

Gray stock: Oct. 27, 2020 | Pump and dump?

March 21, 2021

Here is the article.

Last on Needham’s value list is Graybug, a biopharmaceutical firm conducting clinical-stage research on medications to treat chronic diseases of the retina and optic nerve. The company focuses on long-term treatments, with drugs to be administered no more than twice per year – and provide relief from vision loss due to age-related macular degeneration and diabetic macular edema.

Graybug’s IPO in September was notably successful; the company started trading at $16 per share, above the $15 originally planned, and sold almost 1 million more shares than first announced.

Biotech firms are famously mercurial as stock investments. They tend to run deep losses for long periods, as medical research is both expensive and impossible to short cut. The rewards, however, are real, as one popular drug, or a treatment that is perceived as essential, can bring in tremendous profits once it goes on the market. That’s the value Needham sees here.

Starting coverage on this stock for Needham is analyst Serge Belanger, who says of GRAY, “Anti-VEGF therapies generate ~$12B in WW sales as the standard of care for retinal diseases despite 40%-50% of patients experiencing inadequate responses and a treatment burden that impacts patient compliance. We believe [the company's] GB-102 can disrupt the anti-VEGF market with a differentiated mechanism of action and longer-dosing intervals. Upcoming ph 2b trial data in 1H21 represent the most near-term value-driving catalyst.”

In line with his outlook, Belanger rates the stock a Buy. His $30 price target represents an impressive 96% upside potential for the year ahead. (To watch Belanger’s track record, click here)

Wall Street agrees that GRAY is a buying proposition. The stock has 6 recent reviews, and all are Buys, making the Strong Buy consensus rating unanimous. Shares are selling for $15.32, and the $32.50 average price target implies an upside of 115%. (See GRAY stock analysis on TipRanks)

 Here is the link.

If you were asked, what was the one sense that you couldn't live without, most of you would have immediately thought of your sight. That is because our vision plays an integral role in how we perceive the world around us. Without research into the prevention of vision loss from retinal degenerations, it is guaranteed that 1 in 7 people will lose the sense of sight.

Research led by Dr Riccardo Natoli and his research team focuses on what causes the retina, the part of the eye responsible for converting light to an electrical signal that our brain can understand, to degenerate with age. This degeneration can lead to irreparable loss of retinal cells causing permanent blindness.

Our lab studies a number of retinal diseases such as Retinopathy of Prematurity, Retinitis Pigmentosa and Diabetic Retinopathy, but focuses on finding novel diagnostics and treatment options for Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD). The most common cause of blindness in Australia is AMD, costing the Australian economy ~5 billion dollars annually (Deloitte – Eyes on the Future, 2011). Current projections indicate that by 2030, 1.7 million people in Australia will have vision loss resulting from AMD.

Our most recent work has been involved in elucidating the role of miRNA in the degenerating retina, their role in modulating inflammation and there potential use as both therapeutics and diagnostics for the currently untreatable dry AMD.

Investors Beware! These Energy Stocks Could Go Bankrupt in 2021

March 21, 2021

Here is the link.

Energy stocks had a rough year in 2020. Oil prices went negative for a brief moment and demand is down because people are traveling less during the pandemic.

To make matters worse, the transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy continues in the electricity sector, leaving coal in the dust. As the energy industry has dealt with a pandemic and macro trends, there are a few companies that may end up going bankrupt relatively soon. Peabody Energy (NYSE:BTU), Transocean (NYSE:RIG), and Occidental Petroleum (NYSE:OXY) could be some of the biggest names to fall.

Peabody Energy

It hasn't been long since Peabody Energy was in bankruptcy court, so the company is familiar with the process. And it may be headed back into bankruptcy unless we see some kind of turnaround in coal demand, which seems unlikely at this point.

You can see below that Peabody's revenue has dropped like a rock, losses are mounting, and free cash flow is negative. No matter how you look at it, the company's operations are in shambles.

The worst news is that coal consumption from U.S. power plants continues on a long decline. And there's no end in sight, with the number of operational plants in decline and renewable energy now costing less for new power plants.

Peabody Energy does have some bright spots, including metallurgical coal and exports, but they're not nearly enough to make up for the loss in U.S. thermal coal demand.

Bottom line, there isn't a bright future for coal or Peabody Energy, and that's why the company may eventually end up in bankruptcy -- again.

RIG stock: Why Transocean Stock Rose 25% in December

March 20, 2021

Here is the link.

What happened

Shares of energy services provider Transocean (NYSE:RIG) rose by a huge 25% in December according to data from S&P Global Market Intelligence. That's a massive increase, but it comes off a very low base, given that even after the December advance the stock was off by 66% in 2020. Both of those numbers come right back to oil.

So what

Transocean's customers are energy exploration and production (E&P) companies. The relationship is fairly straightforward. When oil prices are high, E&Ps tend to invest heavily to find and produce new oil. When oil prices are low, E&Ps pull back on such capital investments. The impact on Transocean's business should be obvious: When its customers are spending aggressively it does well; when spending is low it doesn't. With oil plunging in 2020 thanks to the economic shutdowns used to slow the spread of the coronavirus, the energy industry pulled back hard and Transocean's stock fell as investors anticipated a period of poor operating performance.
