Michael Hartnett is So Bearish, He's Bullish | Stock Talk Podcast

Here is the link.

Michael Hartnett is the Chief Investment Strategist at Merrill Lynch. Amongst all of Merrill's economists and strategists, he is perhaps the most well followed by institutional and retail investors. It's a big title, and he's followed by 100's of thousands of advisors and millions of investors. He's been around the block for a few decades and seen a few economic and stock cycles. 00:00 Introduction 02:30 Bullish Signs 05:40 Market Breadth 08:20 Technology Stocks 11:15 Contact Us! He predominately uses a data-driven approach. While too conservative in his second-half 2021 outlook, he was one of the first sell-side strategists to correctly call for a first-half 2022 sell-off for what turned out to be the right reason. That reason. Higher inflation and slowing growth. This is also known as "stagflation" in economic circles. Late Monday night last week. Early Tuesday morning, July nineteenth, he released his much-anticipated Global Fund Managers Survey. Its title, in bold headlines, read, "I'm so Bearish. I'm Bullish." 2022 KIA SPORTAGE SAFETY RATINGS

Sure, the Kia Sportage is among our most stylish models. A fresh exterior, numerous driver-assist technologies, and available All-Wheel Drive make it competitive in its class. What about the 2022 Kia Sportage safety ratings, though?

Easton, Allentown, and Quakertown, PA, shoppers can expect stratospheric safety ratings from the Sportage—and that’s no hyperbole. See how this Kia SUV earned some of the best ratings in the game with our experts at Brown-Daub Kia!

KIA SPORTAGE NHTSA SAFETY RATING

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) performs crash tests annually on a variety of models. Three parts comprise their crash-testing process: frontal crash, side crash, and rollover tests.

Individual scores are then compiled into an overall safety score for the model in question. For 2022, the Kia Sportage earned a 5-Star Overall Safety Rating from the NHTSA. Here’s how it fared in the individual tests:

  • Frontal Crash: 4 Stars
  • Side Crash: 5 Stars
  • Rollover: 4 Stars

With a perfect score on the side crash test, the Sportage is engineered to help keep you safe in some of the most common accidents.

KIA SPORTAGE IIHS SAFETY RATING

Another organization that carries out crash testing is the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). They put models through six “crashworthiness” tests, as well as crash avoidance and mitigation testing, finishing with a look at child seat anchors.

Although 2022 data is not yet available, the 2021 Kia Sportage fared extremely well on testing, emerging as a 2021 TOP SAFETY PICK for the IIHS. With a perfect score of “Good” in all six crashworthiness tests, the honor was hardly unexpected! The six tests included:

  • Small overlap front: driver-side (Good)
  • Small overlap front: passenger-side (Good)
  • Moderate overlap front (Good)
  • Side (Good)
  • Roof strength (Good)
  • Head restraints & seats (Good)

Meanwhile, available LED projector headlights (found on the SX Turbo trim level) earned an “Acceptable” rating from the IIHS. Although they are not curve adaptive, they do feature High Beam Assist to help you see farther up the road.

DRIVE SMART WITH KIA DRIVE WISE

Engineered to help keep you safe in the event of an accident, the Kia Sportage has another ace up its sleeve. It’s one we haven’t yet discussed: accident prevention.

Obviously, it’s better to prevent a collision than simply mitigate it, and Kia Drive Wise helps make that possible. This driver-assist suite comes standard—but it has even more features available for higher trim levels.

It relies on a system of sensors and cameras to help keep you safe in the Sportage. Standard and available features include:

  • Forward Collision Avoidance Assist w/ Pedestrian Detection
  • Lane Keeping Assist and Lane Departure Warning
  • Driver Attention Warning
  • Rear Cross-Traffic Collision Warning
  • Blind-Spot Collision Warning

Best SUVs in Canada for 2022

Your buying guide to the best SUV in 2022

Over the last decade, SUVs in Canada have risen in popularity for many drivers.

Buying a new vehicle can be overwhelming. Today’s brands are fuel-efficient, include top safety features, and can easily have additional car modifications to suit your driving lifestyle.

In 2019, SUVs and pickups account for 70 percent of the market. The last time cars outsold SUVs and trucks were 10 years prior in 2009.

Manufacturers are picking up on this trend, which means there is an abundance of new models to choose from. We researched the top make and models across Canada to simplify your buying process.

What does SUV stand for?

SUV stands for a sports utility vehicle. They are designed to have a higher seating position and sit higher up compared to cards. The majority have all-wheel drive and additional space for storage and passengers. They are better for fuel economy compared to trucks and many have off-road capability.

As the automotive industry has evolved, makers have included SUVs and crossovers – the term is interchangeable, but some crossovers are lower to the ground.

Are SUVs safer than sedans?

It’s not just the added cargo room - one of the most common reasons why people choose SUVs is that they are taller and heavier than sedans, making passengers and drivers feel safer. Some models have inflatable rear seatbelts, adaptive cruise control, and blind spot detection.

3 Advantages to SUVs

There and many benefits to SUVs whether you are seeking utility or luxury, without compromising safety. Here is an overview of the top three advantages to SUVs :

  • More space : Whether you are an avid camper or have a family who partakes in sports, the added space of SUVs allows for extra passengers and cargo when necessary.
  • Enhanced visibility :The height of being behind the wheel of an SUV gives drivers a better view of the road ahead. The higher driving position allows for seeing more of the road, which can help you avoid obstructions and traffic.
  • Improved capability : Most models have an all-wheel drive which can be beneficial during severe weather and hazardous conditions.
  • How to decide which SUV to buy

  • Some midsized models include a third-row seat for extra passenger space. You’ll also want to research the added vehicle safety features, technology, 2WD vs AWD vs 4WD, and towing capacity. Calculating the average kilometers you drive will help you understand how much money you may be spending on fuel.

When you are deciding which model to buy, consider the different sport utility vehicle classes :

    • Mini : The smallest type you can get – they generally look like a smaller crossover vehicle and costs begin around $20,000.
    • Compact : Also known as subcompact, they often have an elevated height, upright seating, and are easy to maneuver. You’ll spend on average $20,000 to $35,000.
    • Mid-size : Mid-size models provide power, space, safety and are common among families with kids. The average price is between $30,000 to over $50,000. Luxury models generally surpass $60,000.
    • Full-size : Large, full-size SUVs have plenty of power, interior space and towing capacity. They are best suited to a driver who needs to haul a trailer or a big family. They usually have a higher price tag of upwards of $85,000.

    SUVs under $50,000

Alphabet | mass layoffs

A major Alphabet investor said the company should cut even more jobs and address 'excessive' pay in the wake of mass layoffs

  • Alphabet investor TCI is urging the company to "go further" in cutting jobs and reducing spend.

  • A letter from TCI to CEO Sundar Pichai said "excessive employee compensation" should be addressed.

  • Google's parent company announced on Friday that it was cutting around 12,000 roles.

A major Alphabet investor urged Google's parent to cut more jobs and reduce staff pay on the same day it announced it would lay off around 12,000 staff.

The Children's Investment Fund Management wrote a letter to Alphabet and Google CEO Sundar Pichai on January 20 — the day Google announced mass layoffs affecting roughly 6% of its workforce — asking him to address "excessive employee compensation."

The letter was signed by Christopher Hohn, the fund's founder, portfolio manager, and managing partner. Hohn called the decision to cut jobs a "step in the right direction," but said management still needed to "go further" to reduce headcount.

Hohn, who has a net worth of $7.49 billion, according to Bloomberg's billionaires index, recommended the company cut its workforce to around 150,000 employees, which he said would require a headcount reduction of around 20%. At the end of the third quarter of 2022, Alphabet employed 186,779 people.

The letter asked Alphabet's management to "take the opportunity to address excessive employee compensation."

"The median salary at Alphabet in 2021 amounted to nearly $300,000, and the average salary is much higher," Hohn's letter continued.

"Competition for talent in the technology industry has fallen significantly allowing Alphabet to materially reduce compensation per employee."

The London-based hedge fund has been a significant shareholder in Alphabet since 2017, it said in a separate letter, which was dated November 15 and also addressed to Pichai.

The November letter, also signed by Hohn, said its shares in the company were worth more than $6 billion. It included similar comments to the January letter, and said Alphabet had too many employees.

Representatives for Alphabet and TCI Fund Management did not respond to Insider's request for comment.

Steps to buying a used vehicle

Steps to buying a used vehicle

1. Do research to find a vehicle that matches your needs

Tips for researching vehicles:

  • Decide what you need the vehicle for: commuting, work, family? Which models are you interested in? Write down your needs and favourite vehicles.
  • Research vehicle safety features.
  • Research fuel or battery efficiency.
  • Research sticker prices. Remember that the type of vehicle you buy can affect your insurance costs. Ask your Autoplan broker for details.
  • Research leasing, purchase options and resale value.
  • Take each vehicle for a thorough test drive and take notes that you can refer to later.

2. Inspect the vehicle for problems

Inspecting a used vehicle for sale gives you precautionary steps to make sure you're getting a good vehicle.

3. Purchase a vehicle history report

A vehicle history report could help you choose the right vehicle—and steer clear of a bad deal.

4. Buy the vehicle and transfer ownership

Buying a used vehicle involves more than simply exchanging money and keys.

You also need:

  • the seller's original Vehicle Registration (APV250)
  • a Transfer/Tax Form (APV9T) completed and signed by you and the seller

You can download the Transfer/Tax Form (APV9T) and complete it using Acrobat Reader or pick up a copy at any Autoplan broker. Please note that original signatures are still required.

The Vehicle Registration and completed Transfer/Tax Form can be brought to any Autoplan broker. You will complete the transfer of ownership at the broker's.

5. Register, license and insure your “new” used vehicle

Before you can get licence plates and insurance, you need to register the vehicle with ICBC.

You can register a vehicle, as well as license and insure it, at any Autoplan broker in B.C.

We recommend that you and the seller go together to an Autoplan broker to complete the transfer of ownership.

If you're buying a used vehicle from a dealer, the staff at the dealership can help you with the registration, insurance and licensing. The dealership will either have an on-site insurance broker or a broker will have an office nearby.
