SABRE | Technology update | Back to profit at the end of 2023

Sabre Pushes Through Setbacks Toward Positive Recovery

 Despite uneven demand in 2022, Sabre expects continued overall recovery leading to positive free cash flow for the company by the end of this year.

Uneven demand — though higher overall — was driven by a resurgence in Covid-19 cases, airline and airport operational constraints, airline capacity limits, and regional travel restrictions, Sabre executives described during an earnings call on Wednesday.

The Texas-based company provides airfare distribution services along with operational software for airlines and the hotel sector.

The number of bookings in the fourth quarter took a hit, primarily in corporate travel and the Asia Pacific region, but those numbers seem to be returning to the recovery trajectory and getting stronger each week. Another hit: Sabre expects a headwind this year of about $100 million in IT solution revenue, primarily because of a new Russian law that forced the company to end those operations there.

Overall, any setbacks seem to have been one-time or temporary, said Kurt Ekert, president of Sabre. The company has calculated those into its projections and is continuing to move forward with other investments, ready for any other unexpected events over the next year.

“As we look at the balance of 2023, we are optimistic on overall demand and recovery levels moving forward, but prepared for the possibility of further unevenness in 2023,” Ekert said.

“Accordingly, we will be responsive to changes in volume growth and control cost as needed to focus on achieving positive free cash flow this year. And while we will adjust as needed to external market conditions, we remain focused on the key long-term strategic opportunities for our business.”

Sabre counted 637 million passengers boarded in 2022, an increase of 30 percent from the previous year.

The company expects to complete this year with revenue between $2.8 billion and $3 billion. That number was $2.5 billion in 2022, an increase of 50 percent from 2021. Operating loss in 2022 was $261 million, versus $665 million in 2021.

Continued Tech Investment

Sabre is continuing its transition to Google Cloud, with a nearly full transition expected by the beginning of 2025. The company ended 2022 with approximately 66 percent of its total compute capacity in Google Cloud, expected to reach 90 percent by the end of this year.

The company exited all four of the datacenters it managed in Texas.

Development work for offloading the primary customer reservations database has been completed, and customer data migrations are on track to be completed this year. That work is in addition to the transfer work the company announced in November, including the full migration of SynXis software systems.

By the time the migration is complete, Sabre expects to have saved $150 million in computing costs.

“We continue to expect that by significantly reducing the complexity and increasing the agility of our technology architecture, we can better serve our customers at a significantly lower overall cost,” Ekert said.

Sabre expects the migration will enable it to expand product offerings, like airline retailing and merchandising, as well as the hospitality central reservation system and new products that came with the acquisition of Nuvola.

Ekert expects to see investments in those product offerings pay off in the years ahead.

Expanded Partnerships

Sabre on Tuesday announced a multi-year renewal of JetBlue’s contract to use Sabre’s passenger service system and global distribution system.

“Should their proposed merger [with Spirit Airlines] be approved, we believe we are very well positioned to help JetBlue expand,” Ekert said.

In November, the company announced a partnership with Mastercard to accelerate the use of virtual cards for business-to-business travel payments.

“This announcement builds upon our acquisition of Conferma, which we acquired in August 2022, and furthers our strategy to create an open and independent travel payment ecosystem,” Ekert said.

The company is also continuing to build on recent partnerships made with BCD Travel, American Express Global Business Travel, and Hopper.

“Our new agreements, and joint technology partnerships with GBT and BCD, are providing incremental bookings to Sabre’s network and are expected to continue to drive additional growth as migration continues, while also yielding opportunities to improve our customers’ overall experience,” Ekert said.

3-Day Rule in Stocks

What is the 3-Day Rule in Stocks?

There are many written and unwritten rules regarding topics that different types of investors or traders often abide by. While most apply to select groups, the 3-day rule is one that anyone who participates in the stock market can incorporate into their strategy.

In short, the 3-day rule dictates that following a substantial drop in a stock’s share price — typically high single digits or more in terms of percent change — investors should wait 3 days to buy.

Why Wait 3 Days to Buy a Falling Stock?

Sudden drops in stock prices can trigger margin calls in accounts that either bought the stock using leverage or entered into options contracts using leverage. These margin calls can trigger additional sales the next day, driving the price down further.

Additionally, institutional investors that want to exit a position almost never dump their shares all at once, instead electing to spread their sales over the span of 2 to 3 days. The reason for this is because high sell volume will cause a stock to nose-dive, so instead of selling as fast as possible, they sell over the course of a few days to maximize their selling price. This continued selling forces the stock to drop more but not to the same extent as the initial drop.

Certain brokers allow you to see what percentage of a company’s shares are held by these institutional investors, a tool that can be helpful in determining how long or impactful an institutional sell-off may be.

Finally, volatility and options activity often come hand-in-hand. On large drops, many options traders look into contract pricing and execute orders. Because these trades are derivative contracts (see Beginner’s Guide to Derivatives Trading), orderflow does not directly impact the stock on that first day. Instead, option orders settle the next day.

How Does the 3-Day Rule Benefit You?

By waiting 3 days to buy into a position, you can grow your profits and lessen your losses. Considering that most stocks trend lower in the days following an initial drop, you can lock in a better purchase price if you are patient.

Waiting 3 days also gives you the opportunity to analyze and understand the underlying news or event that caused a stock to dip sharply — you would regret instantly buying into a stock that has dipped 50% if you later found out that the reason was because the company was going under.

What Should you do During the 3-Day Wait

If you are not familiar with the company, take some time to do the research.

First, make sure you understand why the stock dropped to begin with. Was it definitive news that is detrimental to the company’s future, news causing uncertainty around a company’s future, selloff related to another stock, or simply bad PR? Understanding why the stock dropped is crucial as you will not see future gains on shares if the company’s future is dead.

Second, read about the company you are buying. What do they do? How do they make money? How risky is the business? You would not buy a new pair of shoes if you did not know anything about them. Additionally, take a look at the price history. If the drop has brought the stock back to a price range it normally trades at, maybe the price it fell from was because of a period of volatility and the drop was just a correction.

Finally, learn about how the company fits into its industry and where it trades relative to peers. If the company is in a dying industry it may be safer to stay away from the stock. You can use different multiples such as P/E, EV/EBITDA to see how the stock is valued relative to its competitors.

When you’ve done your due diligence and have decided that the investment is sound, add the stock to a watch list so you can continue to follow its price movements. Adding the equity to your stock market watchlist can also help you to not forget the name.

Are There Exceptions to the 3-Day Rule?

In terms of the SEC 3-day settlement rule, there are no exceptions in that a share must be transferred and settled within 3 days of a sale.

When talking about the trading strategy, investors may want to be wary of trading with the 3-day rule in the following scenario.

Sabre hits turbulence

Meanwhile, shares of Sabre fell 12%. The global travel technology specialist's fourth-quarter financial report failed to live up to high expectations, given the rebound in travel activity during 2022.

Sabre's sales growth was reasonably good, but the company failed to deliver on the bottom line. Revenue of $631 million for the quarter was up 26% from 2021 levels, closing a year in which sales jumped 50%. However, Sabre posted an adjusted loss of $0.36 per share, which was worse than most investors had expected.

Sabre attributed its performance to a rise in global air, hotel, and other travel bookings, as pressures from the COVID-19 pandemic continued to ease. Revenue in Sabre's travel solutions segment grew at a faster 27% pace than its hospitality solutions segment, and travel solutions also posted a significant amount of operating income. By contrast, hospitality solutions suffered an operating loss for the quarter and the full year.

Investors haven't regained their confidence in Sabre stock, as the company has taken longer than hoped to make progress toward recovering to pre-pandemic health. Until signs of better times ahead take shape, Sabre's share price could remain well below where it traded in the 2010s.

路加福音 12:15

 於是對眾人說:「你們要謹慎自守,免去一切的貪心,因為人的生命不在乎家道豐富。

雅歌 第三章 | Pray meeting

  7. 看哪,是所羅門的轎;四圍有六十個勇士,都是以色列中的勇士;

How to SHOW USERS in MySQL Database on Linux

MySQL Sql statement
  •  select * from mysql.user;
  • select user,host, command from information_schema.processlist;
  • select current_user();
  • select user, account_locked, password_expired from mysql.user;
  • select distinct user from mysql.user;
  • desc mysql.user;

Unlike the SHOW DATABASES or SHOW TABLES commands that display all databases or tables right away, the SHOW USERS command does not exist in MySQL. Even though there is no such command, users can use a MySQL query and get a full list of users in a given MySQL database server.

Follow the steps below for more information.

2. Use the MySQL SHOW USERS Query

Use the following query to show MySQL users created in the database server:

SELECT user FROM mysql.user;

Take note that there might be duplicate users. This is because MySQL filters access to a server according to the IP address it comes from.

You can also add a host column to see even more information using the following command:

SELECT user,host FROM mysql.user;

With this, you will be able to see the MySQL users and which host or IP address they have permission to access. In our case, all of the users are from a local database:

3. See More MySQL User Info (Optional)

If you need more information about MySQL users, the search command can be expanded with the help of MySQL queries.

For example, the following command will print out all possible information from the user table:

SELECT * FROM mysql.user;

However, such output might look too messy to figure out. Thus, we recommend narrowing the search by using more specific queries.

Here are some of the more popular use-cases:

Preview Table Columns

The following query will display a preview of user table columns. It is especially helpful if users want to check information about a specific table.

DESC mysql.user

Display Only Unique Usernames

To skip repeating usernames, the following query can be used:

SELECT DISTINCT user FROM mysql.user;

Conclusion

The administration of a database server can be challenging work. Thus, database administrators must be careful when creating and administering user permissions.

The MySQL SHOW USERS command allows administrators to view MySQL users alongside other important information.

To recap, we’ve covered the basics of how to show MySQL users tied to a database and learned how to:

  • List all users created in a given MySQL database
  • Preview MySQL database table columns
  • Display only the unique usernames in a table
  • Check password expiration and account locking status
  • Show current and currently logged-in users in a MySQL database
