The Fashion and Management Missteps That Left Express Clinging to Solvency

  1. One-time trend-setter has been seeking to restructure debts
  2. Creditors are mulling whether to push for bankruptcy instead
  • (Reuters) - Apparel retailer Express is preparing for debt restructuring and a possible bankruptcy within weeks, the Wall Street Journal reported on Monday, citing people with knowledge of the matter.

    Express' shares, which were down about 59% in 2023, fell 23% to $2.85 in extended trading.

    The company has been struggling with soft consumer demand for its brands such as Express and UpWest, but it's still trying to avoid filing for bankruptcy by restructuring debt outside of chapter 11, according to the report.

    The Bonobos-parent had hired restructuring adviser M3 and law firm Kirkland & Ellis as it looked to restructure nearly $280 million of debt, the WSJ reported.

    In November 2023, the company said that it would continue to conduct a comprehensive review of its business model to reduce costs.

    Express did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment.

GME stock | 54 year old birthday | 2020 birthday | 30 shares | 13/ share -> 43/ share

 Jan. 21, 2021

Introduction

It is the toughest job to learn how to invest on equity at lowest price. I did purchase 30 shares of GME stock to celebrate my 54 year old birthday, in Oct. 2020. I like to write a short research report on this event.

GME call

I organized a wechat group to invite Jiaotong university alumni. I need to learn how to collaborate with others. I am single and stubborn, hard to learn things quickly.

I found out that my purchase of 30 shares of GME and sold in the same day, the share price went up from $13.00/ share to $43/ share in less than three months. I remembered that I acted on news about Microsoft supported Gamestop, the price went up from around $5/ share.

I like to learn something from my experience. Things I can see and I cannot see, how to invest as an intelligent investor.

I think that most important is to look forward next six month or a year. If the stock and business will grow and back to normal after pandemic, then I should not care about 20% to 30% loss in short term.

I just could not believe that back in Oct. 2020, I spent so much time to learn how to invest, but I did not understand the best way to do the work. Do not think about market value, think about business, long term, intrinsic value.

It was my birthday. It should be fun to celebrate my birthday. I need to learn one more business, since the stock went up after Microsoft chose to support GameStop. It was the first time I learned the business, I did hear from wechat group Anna.
