- Google is offering voluntary buyouts to employees in the core Search unit and much of the Ads unit, according to a Tuesday report by The Information.
- The report said the move comes as Google’s search business faces "unprecedented threats" from ChatGPT and following its loss in a U.S. antitrust case.
- Nick Fox, who runs Google's knowledge group, reportedly said in an email to his team that the buyouts were aimed at U.S. employees.
- The report also said the buyouts could be a prelude to layoffs.
- In January, the company came out with a voluntary exit program for U.S. employees in the Platforms & Devices group—those working in Android (Auto, TV, Wear OS, XR), Chrome, ChromeOS, Google Photos, Google One, Pixel, Fitbit, and Nest teams.
