Heartbroken.

I was impacted by the recent round of layoffs at Microsoft. It took me a few days to come to terms with this news but I am back to the grind now. Since I am on H1b, the clock’s ticking and I have a limited time to look for a job. Please reach out to me if you have any opportunities

I have 8+ years of experience, started as a systems engineer and spent 5+ years at Microsoft as a Technical Program Manager working on the Microsoft Learn platform as an International Customer Experience PM.

I would like to thank everyone I have worked with in my 5+ years at Microsoft. It has definitely been hell of a ride.

Lastly, anyone in a similar situation, my heart goes out to you. Take care of yourself. Hang in there and this too shall pass.

- As an international experience PM, I have achieved documented increase in the reach of Microsoft Azure content, sites and services globally, with focus on the non-English speaking countries. My responsibilities included pursuing strategic partnerships internally within Microsoft and externally to amplify the usage of Microsoft products. My accomplishments include managing a $1 Million expansion project to expand the reach of Microsoft Azure content and services to new markets such as Indonesia and the Middle East and increased reach by 200%.
  
  Prior to my role as an international experience PM, I was an Localization PM and my responsibilities included, but not limited to, owning a $2M portfolio of content localization and publishing with end to end process supervision to identify and improve bottlenecks, budget management, feature gap identification, technical spec documentation and stakeholder communication. One of my more notable achievements was working on a multimedia localization project where we pioneered a process to localize images at scale which had not been achieved before.

加拿大永久居民

很多加拿大永久居民对于枫叶卡的居住要求有诸多疑问，在今天的blog中，迈林律师事务所的Helen Han，将为大家全面解析枫叶卡的相关规定以及居住要求。

加拿大永久居民的定义：
加拿大永久居民是加拿大法律认定的在加拿大拥有无限期停留，生活与工作的人，加拿大永久居民不是加拿大公民。永久居民持有非加拿大国籍。

加拿大永久居民的居住要求：

每一个加拿大永久居民都需要达到在过去的5年中在加拿大居住满730天的要求，以下情况即使永久居民居住在境外，在境外的居住时间也可视同为在加拿大居住时间：

永久居民陪同有加拿大公民身份的配偶
永久居民（22岁以下）陪同有加拿大公民身份的父母
在境外全职受雇于加拿大企业或者政府
在境外陪同有加拿大永久居民身份的配偶，该配偶是全职受雇于加拿大企业或者政府

枫叶卡：
加拿大政府于2002年开始正式实施加拿大永久居民卡（俗称枫叶卡）制度，作为加拿大永久居民的身份和旅行凭证。枫叶卡的有效期一般为5年。如果你是新移民，在完成登陆手续之后移民官会帮你申请新的枫叶卡，你无需自己申请；如果你已不是新移民并持有枫叶卡，在枫叶卡过期之前你需要申请更新你的枫叶卡。

居住时间的计算：

关于居住时间的计算，很多移民都有一个误区，居住时间的计算既不是从你登录的这天开始计算，也不是从你拿到枫叶卡的这天开始计算，而是从你递交枫叶卡续卡申请的这一天开始往回倒推5年，在这5年中，你满足加拿大对永久居民要求的居住条件才可以；并且，你需要保证从你递交申请开始，到你的案子被移民官审理期间，都要满足居住时间的要求。
另外值得注意的是，枫叶卡虽然不要求你连续居住在加拿大，但是每次入境的时候移民官都有可能会审核你是否满足永久居民的居住要求，如果不达到要求，你的永久居民身份有可能会被裁定取消。

加拿大枫叶卡续卡申请要求：

你的枫叶卡在9个月之内过期
满足加拿大永久居民居住要求
在加拿大境内递交申请
没有被下驱逐令

永久居民身份丧失：
如果你的枫叶卡过期，并不代表你的加拿大永久居民身份丧失。正常情况下，加拿大政府不会主动撤销你的永久居民身份，以下几种情况下你的加拿大永久居民身份将会丧失：

在你递交申请或者上诉要求后，法官裁定你没有满足加拿大永久居民居住要求
自动放弃加拿大永久居民身份
被政府下了驱逐令
成为加拿大公民

枫叶卡更新 —— 5年内住满两年时间该如何计算？

加拿大的移民政策规定，除了外派工作或陪伴有加拿大公民身份的家庭成员以外，永久居民必须每5年在加拿大住满两年。很多人知道这个政策的存在并尽可能地满足居住要求。但某些移民由于对政策的理解不正确，以致在办理枫叶卡更新时遇到麻烦，甚至可能失去永久居民身份。

办理枫叶卡更新的时候，申请表格要求填写从递表日往前推算5年共离境的天数，如果离境天数不超过1095天（即3年），则符合办理枫叶卡更新的要求。申请人姚先生2005年6月登陆加拿大温哥华，其枫叶卡2010年8月到期。为了满足居住要求，姚先生登陆后连续在加拿大住了两年，并于2007年6月返回中国，此后一直在中国居住。2010年1月，姚先生返回加拿大递交了枫叶卡更新申请，在加拿大逗留几天后又返回中国。2010年8月姚先生回加拿大准备领取新枫叶卡。可是在移民局，移民官在查看了姚先生的护照后，认为姚先生从2007年6月至2010年8月期间，除了有几天返回加拿大办理枫叶卡外，其余的时间一直在中国居住。也就是说，从2010年8月往前推算的5年时间，姚先生离开加拿大的时间超过3年（1095天）。因此，移民官拒绝发新枫叶卡给姚先生。

我们曾多次接到与姚先生的个案相类似的求助电话。不少枫叶卡更新申请人误以为只要在递交申请表时符合居住要求，就一定能成功换领新枫叶卡。也有人误以为只要枫叶卡更新的申请获得批准，就一定能领到新枫叶卡。但居住政策的实际要求是，永久居民在登陆后的任何一天，往后推算5年，都必须在加拿大住满两年。即使申请人在递交枫叶卡更新申请的时候满足居住要求，但如果象姚先生那样递交表格后就离开加拿大直到领卡时才回来，那么也有可能在领卡的时候已经不符合居住的要求了。而移民官在任何时候都可以重新审查你是否满足居住要求。因此，即使枫叶卡更新的申请获得批准，申请人也未必能顺利领到枫叶卡。在这种情况下，申请人也可能通过补交材料、求情或者申诉的方式获得新枫叶卡。

在此，我们再次提醒永久居民要在任何5年都满足住满两年的要求。
