Best Day Trading Indicators: The 7 Technical Tools Professional Traders Actually Use

The seven most effective day trading indicators are VWAP, the 9/20 EMA combination, relative volume, Level 2/depth of market, ATR for stop placement, MACD fo...

can you help me to evaluate my indicator converage for my trading layout, currently I have market structure indicator chart, EMA 9 21 VWAP scalp chart, future swing indicator charts with Heiken Ashi candle and High Low price candle, smart money LuxAlog indicator chart with MTF Zigzag and donChain Channel, and Marketsmith volume indicator, RSI and MACD and VWAP composite indicator, Anchored VWAP indicator?

Your current setup creates massive indicator redundancy, particularly in momentum and trend identification, which can easily lead to analysis paralysis. While you have excellent tools for capturing trend direction and structural pivot points, your layout heavily overlaps across different charts. [1, 2]

Key Evaluation & Overlaps
  • Momentum Overload: You are running RSI, MACD, and VWAP-MACD simultaneously. These indicators evaluate nearly the exact same price-action data. [1, 2]
  • Structural Redundancy: The LuxAlgo Smart Money Concepts, MTF ZigZag, and Donchian Channels are all trying to map out swing highs/lows and trend breaks. [1, 2, 3]
  • Candle Clutter: Using Heiken Ashi alongside standard high-low candles hides real-time price action. This can obscure exact support/resistance (S/R) levels needed for stop placements. [1, 2, 3]
  • Solid Foundations: Your use of Anchored VWAP and Multi-Timeframe (MTF) analysis correctly grounds your strategy in institutional liquidity. [1, 2]
Recommended Core Layout
To streamline your process and achieve clarity at a glance, group your indicators into a dedicated two-to-three chart setup: [1, 2]
Chart 1: Clean Price Action & Structure (Your Base Chart)
  • Use Regular Candlesticks (not Heiken Ashi) to preserve exact high/low price data for better S/R.
  • Market Structure Indicator / Smart Money (LuxAlgo): Use this as your primary map for tracking shifts in character (CHoCH) and breaks of structure (BoS).
  • Anchored VWAP: Essential for identifying institutional "fair value" and volume shelves from previous major swing points. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]
Chart 2: Scalping & Trend (Intraday Focus)
  • EMA 9 & 21: Use this classic crossover pair to immediately gauge short-term trend bias.
  • VWAP (Session/Daily): Acts as a primary dynamic support/resistance anchor, keeping you on the right side of daily market sentiment. [1, 2, 3]
Chart 3: Momentum & Volume (Filters)
  • Marketsmith Volume Indicator: Keeps your focus on volume surges relative to the 10-week or 50-day average.
  • VWAP-MACD or standard MACD: Choose just one of these to evaluate momentum strength.
  • RSI: Keep this strictly to spot price-to-momentum divergences. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]
A Rule of Thumb for Your Layout
“89% use three or fewer indicators on their charts”
, as noted by Trade Algo. Professional traders typically use 1-2 upper indicators for structure and 1-2 lower indicators for confirmation. [1]
Next Steps for Streamlining:
  1. Consolidate: Drop either the MTF ZigZag or Donchian Channel, as your Smart Money indicator covers these pivots natively.
  2. Evaluate: Make a list of your past trades and see which 2-3 indicators were actually responsible for triggering the entry. Delete the rest to free up your screen..
