KOHL stock: Kohl's Cuts Corporate Staff Again to Reduce Costs

 Here is the article.

Back in February, Kohl's (NYSE:KSS) announced that it was laying off 250 corporate employees in an effort to streamline its management, speed up decision making, and cut costs. Those moves were designed to bolster the retailer's efficiency and improve its competitiveness following a disappointing 2019.

Of course, the COVID-19 pandemic and related disruption to store traffic for discretionary retailers like Kohl's has made maximizing efficiency more important than ever. As a result, Kohl's recently decided to reduce its corporate workforce even more aggressively.

ENB.TO stock: I should bet a rebound today

I should invest 200 shares of ENB.TO and catch a 2.28% return. I should take some risk. I have over $6200 dollars loss on Canada oil stocks, and loss on ENB.TO is $145.00 dollars.

Actionable Items

Sept. 23, 2020

Do not be a gambler. I should focus on basics, learn how to work with limited capital; build up strong technical skills first.

As a good investor, I should feel better to sleep until 8:00 AM; I do not need to rush to get up around 6:20 AM, and wait for market open.

TRP.TO stock: I should bet on quick rebound - $1/ share in a few hours

 Sept. 21, 2020

Introduction

It is time for me to review my chance to catch a rebound with $1/ share this morning. It is risky but it is reasonable.

TRP.TO stock

What I should do is to purchase 200 shares of TRP.TO at price $58.32. It is chance for me to recover partial loss on this stock from August 31 to Sept. 21, 2020.

ROKU stock: Here's Why Roku Stock Is Soaring Even Though the Market Is Down Today

 Here is the article.

Shares of connected-TV platform Roku (NASDAQ:ROKU) were climbing higher on Monday morning even though the market was broadly down. That's because the company announced a deal with Comcast's (NASDAQ:CMCS.A) NBCUniversal to bring its streaming-video channel Peacock to Roku's platform.

As of 10:15 a.m. EDT on Monday, Roku stock was up 14%. For the year, it's up 36%, handily beating the market.

More about video streaming service - ROKU platform

Peacock was one of the few prominent streaming video-on-demand services not available on Roku. NBC's other channels were there. But the two companies were actively negotiating a deal for Peacock. And, as of Friday, it wasn't going well.

According to the website The Verge, all of NBCUniversal's channels were about to be pulled from Roku, unless Roku agreed to NBCUniversal's terms for Peacock. A Roku spokesperson told The Verge that NBCUniversal's terms weren't favorable. Likewise, NBCUniversal said Roku's demands were unreasonable. But something happened over the weekend, and NBCUniversal's channels are staying on Roku, and Peacock is launching on the platform in the next couple of weeks.

Stop loss: Key largo Ameritrade.com account losses from over $600 to $400

 Sept. 21, 2020

Introduction

It takes a lot of mistakes for me to build a routine to stop big loss on my Ameritrade.com. I used to get those daily swing over $500 dollars a lot of times, but once I got educated and learned that it is most common mistake as a beginner investor, I like to write down my mistake every time until I can learn how to prevent it.

Daily big loss over $600 dollars

I did purchase over $7000 dollars last Friday three stocks, INTC 70 shares, AAL 100 shares and 200 shares of NCLH.

I did not learn the importance to prevent big loss, since AAL and NCLH are most speculated stocks right now. The losses can easily be over 5% to 8%.

This Monday morning the crashes of market caused loss over $600 quickly.

4 PM PST time

The stock market is full of gambling, manipulation and there is no discipline on stock price. It is so challenging for a beginner. I try to focus on basics, build good habit to work on small position, and trade more often, and stop big loss.

NCLH stock price

Actionable Items

It is easy for me to make this trading day with some gains. If NCLH has trailing stop at 0.2/ share price drop, then I can purchase back when there is 8% losses. So it is easy for me to have more shares with the same capital. 6% is difference, around $200 dollars. At least I can make 2% gains.

NCLH stock is very speculating, right now the sail order is due end of September. But right now the coronavirus will take more more for NCLH stock to go up again.

Being a responsible person in stock market. One idea is to play small size, learn from my own mistakes first.

NCLH stock: My lesson - stop big loss on Sept. 21, 2020

Avoid big loss: Set stop loss - save $300 dollars

 Sept. 21, 2020

Introduction

It is challenge for me to train myself to be frugal person. I have to cut relationship with my relatives, asking me to pay bills, abusing me. But it is more challenge for me to train myself thinking in defense way. As a single person, I have to learn how to understand myself in psychology in investment, and also focus on to avoid big loss.

Set stop loss - easy but I did not do it

I should have set stop loss, so this morning I can avoid NCL -255.00 losses and AAL -88.92 loss.

I already learned to set trailing stop, but I forgot to do it. So I need to work on my thinking process, starting from defensive steps, and then move to take risk part.

I am a single person, but I do have a wechat group to chat with investment. I need to learn how to build good habit, routine to prevent big loss first.

This may have happened from March to Sept. 2020 hundreds of time, but last two weeks I learn that beginner common mistake is not to avoid big loss. I need to start to learn how to put into my planning, weekend projects to work on.

My two losses

Project management: 90% of investors are not good at project management, I am one of them

 Sept. 21, 2020

Introduction

I take risk to purchase NCLH and AAL last Friday when there are over 5% loss, but I did not set up stop loss before this Monday. Market crashed again, and I have big loss over $551.07 dollars. It is my habit, and it is also my project management skills. I like to write down my lesson.

My preparation

Last Sunday night, I spent a few hours to prepare market open. I thought about revenge bet on Canadian oil stocks, and then my friend in wechat told me that prude oil price went down; I did not set purchase of all my $60,000 dollars cash. I studied what are revenge trade carefully.

Next I thought about how to bet on oil stock in my IRA account.

I know that investor likes to selloff since it is better to take profit and then run. I should set stop loss to prevent loss. I need to learn basics - how to protect the value of my portfolio.

I need to focus on learning this skills. Ameritrade is free to buy and sell stocks. Also I made mistake to purchase extra 100 shares of NCLH.

Actionable Items

My positions had over $600 losses in the early morning.

Another big loss: Ameritrade.com IRA account

 Sept. 21, 2020

Introduction

Stop big loss! A beginner's common mistake is not to avoid big loss. Last weekend I spent time to study market, but I did not set stop loss on AAL 100 shares and NCLH 200 shares.

Big loss

I had loss this morning $551.07 dollars. As an investor, I made mistakes to purchase over $7000 dollars last Friday. I have $300 dollars gains after 16 months, then I lost all of them and another $200 dollars.

I should set stop loss on those purchased shares NCLH and AAL last Friday.

Purchase plan: Sept 18 losses - prepare for my purchase

 Sept. 20, 2020

Introduction

It is time for me to place some orders and then I wish that I can catch some rebound in Sept. 21, 2020.

Sept 18 2020

Here is those stocks I like to purchase.

EXPE stock: Expedia Stock Showing Improved Relative Strength As Travel Improves

 Here is the article.

On Thursday, Expedia (EXPE) earned an upgrade to its Relative Strength (RS) Rating, from 70 to 76.  It is currently working on a consolidation pattern according to a MarketSmith daily chart. As more travel industry stocks are beginning to show signs of life, it might be time to expand your watchlist.

The company earns the No. 6 rank among its peers in the Leisure-Travel Booking industry group. Trip.com Group Ltd Adr (TCOM), Booking (BKNG) and MakeMyTrip (MMYT) are among the top 5 highly rated stocks within the group.

 Here is the article.

RDS.A stock: Royal Dutch Shell: Unloved But Offering A 25%+ 3-Year CAGR Even Without A Full Recovery

 Here is the article.

Oil prices have firmed up lately, but Royal Dutch Shell remains unloved, with its share price sliding back towards lows from the negative oil price crisis.

The company's fundamental strength remains solid with a strong financial position and history of dividend coverage, meaning that it can afford to increase its dividends in the future.

Even if the company only reinstates its dividend back to two-thirds of its previous level, investors could still see 25% per annum returns across the next three years.

When running a Monte Carlo Simulation to estimate the intrinsic value for the shares, a very impressive 82% of the results were above the current price, indicating low downside risk.

Following this analysis, I believe that upgrading my rating to very Bullish from Bullish is appropriate.

Think about more about purchase of oil stock again:

Even though oil prices have firmed up lately, the share prices of many large oil and gas companies have continued sliding down towards their lows during the fear of negative oil prices. One such example is the Anglo-Dutch supermajor Royal Dutch Shell (RDS.ARDS.B), which presents investors with another chance at a desirable contrarian dividend investment.

Revenge Trading: Trying to Recover Losses Back

 Here is the article.

Baby step: Stock market - be cautious

 Sept. 20, 2020

Introduction

It is hard to resist revenge investment. I had big loss on August 31, 2020, so it is hard for me to understand revenge bet. I like to learn gambling common mistakes, and then move myself to small step, $100 gains/ loss will be better for me to learn. I like to work on strategy to purchase small amount, and test market.

Market risk

Now it is downward market risk. Even though SU.TO stock is lowest point in the year, but investors still like to sell the stock. I had 1000 shares, and then lost near $2,000 dollars. I stopped loss, same as IMO.TO. HSE.TO, CVE.TO. Revenge bet is dangerous, since institution buyers know how to scare away retail investor, let stock price swing down 30% or more.

I like to learn how to get back on this stock. It is easy for me to work on the stock using small amount, and then figure out what is most lowest point.

Stock market is too scary for me since I lose all my gains over $6,000 dollars. I have take risk to lose some of my capital.

What I should learn in next three months? Should I do something better to help myself?

Life is tough even though I am so frugal

 Sept. 20, 2020

Introduction

I have to live a life day by day. I like to talk about it and then review it, and get better management of projects in my life.

Start from 30 minutes talk

I called my neighbor in Florida, who complained bugs in kitchen and he asked me if I took his advice to use professional service he found.

I talked to him over 30 minutes.

Being a landlord

It is tough for me to be a landlord this year. I have to pay two installment for roof fund. $2500 dollar each. Monthly maintenance is up to $300/ month.

Rental near Florida Atlantic University

Because of coronavirus, it is hard for me to find new visiting professors from China to visit in FAU. I also find out the demand is low.

Being frugal

I am still learning to invest on stock market. One day I have gains over $6000 dollars, next day I made a big bet, and then lost over $6000 dollars gains over 15 months.

Weight control

I have to pay attention to my weight, and start to play more sports, running and outdoor activities. Life should be easy and enjoyable.

How Unemployment Impacted Millennials During Coronavirus

 Here is the link.

Between the end of March and the beginning of August, over 1 million people applied for unemployment insurance — each week. At the height of the pandemic, nearly 15% of working Americans were unemployed and in total, over 50 million Americans have filed for unemployment insurance since March. Because of the massive influx of unemployment insurance applicants, millions of people reported their unemployment benefits, which they have paid taxes towards for years, were delayed. Or never came at all. And millennials, who are currently between the ages of 24 and 38, may be the group hit hardest by the economic turmoil of the pandemic. According to Pew Research Center, 35% of Americans between ages 18 and 29 and 30% of those between ages 30 and 49 say they or someone in their household has lost their job. Data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics also indicates that among those who are unemployed, millennials are facing longer-stretches of joblessness. CNBC Make It spoke with young unemployed workers and economists to hear how millennials have been impacted by unemployment and learned how the pandemic has laid bare the critical role of our unemployment system, as well as its flaws.

Stock market: 12 months passive investing vs 3 months active investing

 Sept. 19, 2020

Introduction

It is tough for me to continue to invest as active investor, after three months being active investor, I like to consider how I should continue to learn how to invest on stock market. No one can avoid speculation and gambling on stock market, but it is important for me to learn something through those mistakes. I have to study carefully how to avoid risk of gambling, market risk, and all kinds of side effects.

3 months active investing

I started to play with over confidence, and then I was so scared. And then I started to bet on oil stock, and then had big loss. I have to face my money management problems over 30 years, all those problems will affect my judgement on stock market.

Am I hard working person? Am I trying to speculate the market and try to solve my finance problem? As a 53 year old, single, with first time 10 year stable job experience, I learn the importance to learn by myself.

There is always safe to take slow, and focus on basics. I like to learn more about trading common mistakes.

MRO stock: Yahoo -> Finance -> Conversation

Sept. 19, 2020

I like to figure out the calculation in the following:

Unreal MRO is not $7 bucks now. When you look at MRO`s break even of $35 a barrel and then look at WTI prices from July to Sept with 12 days left in this quarters you see we have averaged about $41 a barrel. So if we are producing 190,000 barrels a day(bopd) x $6 of free cash flow that is $1.14 million everyday. That is $103.74 million this quarter of free cash flow. That means to pay bills MRO makes $605.15 million plus free cash flow of $103.74 = Revenue of $708.89 million. Now here is the interesting thing. MRO has cut capital expenditure budget to $1.2 billion for 2020. If MRO has cut cost across all basins that $35 breakeven could be lower. Let`s say they got it down to $30 per barrel. That is $190.19 million free cash flow.

Yes maybe that is to low but look what happens at $35 if WTI hits $50 . Free cash flow is $259.35 million per quarter. Citi had oil next year at $60 by year end. Let`s say $55 WTI. Free cash flow is $345.8 million per quarter give or take.

Bottom line with that much free cash coming in no way MRO stock sits at $4.68. Your looking at the low end of $12 per share next year to high end of $22 per share.

Now MRO has a tender offer of $500 million of it`s bonds 2.8 percent. Expires Oct 14 2020. It will cost them $525 million. I don`t know what to think about that. Are they selling a asset? Did they win the lotto? Did they get a lower interest government loan? Why clean up the balance sheet ?

One thing for sure, now is the time to buy MRO before the big run up. If not many of you can say BK all you want . We that bought will wave at you as we pull up to the bank in a armored car because this stock is going to make us rich.

IMO.TO stock: Learn lessons about market risk - -14.85% loss from August 31 to Sept 18 2020

 Sept. 18, 2020

Introduction

I like to learn lesson about investment. I should not play market without understanding the risk.

My losses

Actionable plan

I like to set $18,000 dollars on investment on the stock IMO.TO. My plan is to build the portfolio using 50% stock and 50% cash.

So I like to keep the balance ratio between cash and IMO.TO stock.

I like to get back to purchase 300 shares of IMO.TO stock, around $5000 dollars. And I like to see if I can manage those $5000 dollars investment very well.

My goal is to try to purchase from different time of date, maybe 50 share a time, so the price can be varied. $1000 dollars each time. If the price swings, then I will try to make some profit.

Since I have already losses around $1634.80 dollars, I like to think about getting back when oil price rebounds in Canada stocks.

INTC stock: Lessons I learned as an investor

 Sept. 18, 2020

Introduction

It is important for me to learn how to time the market. I like to write down lessons I learned from my investing experience.

INTC stock investment

I purchased 170 shares when Intel had an earning day with over 10% losses on stock price. I purchased 200 shares in the same day. I should start to purchase 20 shares, since next three days there are another 10% loss. Over one month, the loss of 170 shares of Intel stocks is near 10%.

After the recovery, I was so happy since I can finally invest again with Ameritrade balance over $20,000 dollars. I purchased 200 shares of market price, 52.5, which is too high. I should set stop loss, suddenly there was market crash, I did not sell the shares, and then I tried to catch rebound using FB and MSFT stock. I sold INTC stocks, and then purchased FB stock and MSFT.

Now I have over $604 dollars loss. I like to practice trading and see if I recover some of losses. I had $50 dollar dividend from 170 share INTC stock.

Better planning

I should set purchase of Intel stock 70 shares at price $50.20, I tried to time the market and purchased 50 shares at price $50.20/ share.

Another idea is to purchase 20 shares in the morning, and later at lower price another 50 shares.

NCLH stock: Norwegian Cruise Line (NCLH) Outpaces Stock Market Gains: What You Should Know

 Here is the article.

I like to take some notes and prepare myself as an investor.

Here are highlights:

  1. August 14 to Sept. 14, closed at $17.79, gained 14.15% over the past month
  2. Consumer discretionary sector's gain - 1.87% from August 14 to Sept. 14
  3. S & P gain: 0.37% in that time
  4. NCLH has next earning release - November 5th, 2020
  5. NCLH post earnings of -$2.23 per share - decline 200%
  6. $1.37 million, down 99.93%

In the latest trading session, Norwegian Cruise Line (NCLH) closed at $17.79, marking a +1.6% move from the previous day. This change outpaced the S&P 500's 1.27% gain on the day. At the same time, the Dow added 1.18%, and the tech-heavy Nasdaq gained 1.87%.

Prior to today's trading, shares of the cruise operator had gained 14.15% over the past month. This has outpaced the Consumer Discretionary sector's gain of 1.87% and the S&P 500's gain of 0.37% in that time.

Investors will be hoping for strength from NCLH as it approaches its next earnings release. In that report, analysts expect NCLH to post earnings of -$2.23 per share. This would mark a year-over-year decline of 200%. Our most recent consensus estimate is calling for quarterly revenue of $1.37 million, down 99.93% from the year-ago period.

Looking at the full year, our Zacks Consensus Estimates suggest analysts are expecting earnings of -$8.30 per share and revenue of $1.30 billion. These totals would mark changes of -263.06% and -79.93%, respectively, from last year.

Any recent changes to analyst estimates for NCLH should also be noted by investors. These revisions help to show the ever-changing nature of near-term business trends. With this in mind, we can consider positive estimate revisions a sign of optimism about the company's business outlook.

Our research shows that these estimate changes are directly correlated with near-term stock prices. We developed the Zacks Rank to capitalize on this phenomenon. Our system takes these estimate changes into account and delivers a clear, actionable rating model.

The Zacks Rank system ranges from #1 (Strong Buy) to #5 (Strong Sell). It has a remarkable, outside-audited track record of success, with #1 stocks delivering an average annual return of +25% since 1988. Within the past 30 days, our consensus EPS projection has moved 3.38% lower. NCLH is holding a Zacks Rank of #5 (Strong Sell) right now.

The Leisure and Recreation Services industry is part of the Consumer Discretionary sector. This industry currently has a Zacks Industry Rank of 242, which puts it in the bottom 5% of all 250+ industries.

Introduction

AC.TO stock: If You Invested $10,000 in Air Canada Stock in the Last Market Crash, This Is How Much You’d Have Today

 Here is the article.

I have an idea on July 31, after I sold 300 shares of AC.TO and made over $300 dollars gains. I thought about investing all my capital on this stock. Even though AC.TO has risk of bankruptcy, but I have to agree that it is the best business in the world, and they work on planning, budgeting, financing.

At that time, I worked on lowest price $15.00, now it is $18.50/ shares.

Market is not always true to real value of stock. Traders usually overreact. I should be patiently and then take some risk to try to build wealth.

AAL stock: Need more patient to my purchase

 Sept. 18, 2020

Introduction

It is tough for me to correct my behavior problem. I purchased 100 shares of AAL first time, since I got message from wechat group, I had over $80 dollars, and then I sold since I liked to try to stop loss.

AAL stock

One day I have to teach myself how to behave better. As long as I do not put all funds, my 10 years savings in Canada oil stock in the same time, two weeks period. I should relax and enjoy trading. I have a full time job, and also have time to learn how to trade, a group of friends to share the experience.

I should make $150 dollars easily, since AAL went up a few times. I read articles about airline stocks went up and I should read more about this topic.

Discipline

When I risk my own capital to invest, I should stay confident as well. Do not bet too big, and think hard and push hard to find solutions if things are changing quickly. I have to learn how to take market risk, and then play very well on defense.

System design: I am a good reader

 Sept. 18, 2020

Introduction

Task - daily task

I like to spend 30 minutes to watch a video in the morning about system design as well.

Stock trader: I want to be a good trader - Day one

 Sept. 18, 2020

Introduction

It is not easy task to choose to be a good trader. I have to set alarm at 6:20 AM and get up early since market opens at 6:30 AM.  I like to work on my goal - be a good trader.

Be a Good Trader

It is tough for me to be a good trader. I have to work on a list of things to make improvements.

Last six months I already work on stock investment by myself. I have to stay consistent, and do not feel frustrated with my own mistakes.

My mistakes can be a few things in very simple format.

1. Do not get too excited. Stay calm all the time.

2. Money management skills - Avoid big loss - this is tough part, it is like psychology problem. When big loss hits, I do not act enough to stop loss. I need to figure out how to stay alert.

3. Understand passive investment and short term investment.

I choose to be realistic, do not think about long term investment too much. Focus on short term, 1 to 3 months, and also build good habits as a trader. Trade often, and trade small positions. Learn to set stop loss, and also work on more trades. Even small positions, like a few shares, I need to take profit in time, and get back in when price drops.

I also need to learn more business, trade more stocks in various business. I should learn quickly, read articles about business, try different tools, and come out some marketing ideas to motivate myself to continue.

Move focus from gains to be more educated person. So that I can easy build a good role model in my life, and live happy life and also believe that as long as I can survive long term, do not lose my capital, I will find ways to make money, build wealth.

Do not talk about 7 even, 2 loses, 1 win in stock investment. Try to be positive, and also work on business side. Vote on my opinion on market, and use small profit to show what is wrong or correct as an investor.

Day one

My Ameritrade.com - Balance today - Sept. 18, 2020, gain less than $500

My TFSA account - Balance today - Sept. 19, 2020, loss $2000 dollars.

Big mistake - Do not stop big loss, I need to work on my psychology problem. Take action quickly. Do not relax since I had near $5000 dollars gains on TFSA, and place a big bet and lose all of them. I panic, and sold all positions.

Market is downward swing. It is hard to take risk to stay put. I can choose other opportunities to get back instead of waiting for those positions: SU.TO, IMO.TO, HSE.TO, CVE.TO.

WDC stock: My learning from August 7 to Sept 9 2020

 Sept. 17, 2020

Introduction

I like to write a short story how I start to learn from stock purchase from August 7 to Sept. 9, 2020. Life is much better since I focused on learning and mistakes I made, good articles I read about business WDC.

WDC stock

The stock is undervalued. Of course it went up too much last two years. I like to show the picture first, and then write down my story along the time line.

I purchased 100 shares of WDC after earning day 10% loss. I should purchase three days afterwards. In less than one month, there is another 10% loss. So I started to read articles about WDC and MU, and those two stocks are undervalued.

I finally waited the stock recovered, but I sold without profit. So I got back in. My last sale is on Sept. 9, 2020. I think that I should wait until Sept. 17, 2020 to sell, so that I can make $175 dollars profit.

Those three stocks, WDC, MU, INTC are undervalue. The intrinsic values are much higher.

Knowledge is power. I learn from reading articles, but I did not act on based on my knowledge. I need to work on this as an investor.

The size of position is fit for my level. I should trade more, since I only had a few trades with 100 shares or over $3000 dollars; I purchased ENBL, SABR, INTC, but I did not learn quickly enough, and found my problem - avoid big loss, set stop loss.

I need to trade more often, so I can keep finding my problems. I can work on small gains and build up my wealth.

Do not bet too big. Market risk is important to consider. Do not neglect. Go for loss, loss, loss, big win pattern research.

Stock investment: My big mistakes from March to Sept 2020

 Sept. 17, 2020

Introduction

It is the first time I learn from my own mistakes. I do not have strong money management skills. I need to work on money management, all those bad habits also affect my stock investment. I like to write the topic called my big mistakes from March to Sept. 2020.

My big mistakes

I like to write my big mistakes, avoid big loss, my confidence or overconfidence, and my learning from practice.

First one is my biggest mistake, on August 31, 2020, I invested over $70,000 dollars Canadian oil stock, I did not set stop loss, I never did before. So my loss increased quickly from $1000 to $3000 to $6000 dollars.

Second one is my overconfidence. I invested 170 shares of Intel stocks, and then my loss is over $550 dollars in Sept. I bought high and sold low, 200 shares of Intel $22.50, and sold on $19.40.

I had over $700 dollars on Sabr stock. I bought at highest price around $10.00 dollars, the price went down around $7 dollars.

Leetcode discuss: 146 LRU cache - C# discussion post

 Sept. 17, 2020

Introduction

It takes me over two hours to review all C# discussion post on Leetcode.com about 146 LRU cache. I like to write down what I learn from the posts.

C# programming

I have to push myself to learn more about C#, object oriented programming design. It is hard for me to find time to work on book reading, learning from others.

It is such good learn experience for me to read 146 LRU cache.

More trades: Small size less risky

 Sept. 17, 2020

Introduction

I have to learn how to trade properly on stock market. After August 31, 2020 over $6,000 dollars loss, I like to start all over again with small size. I am planning to work on 200 share SU.TO, and then learn how to recover the loss little by little.

Learn from practice

I am a beginner, but overconfidence costed me over $6,000 dollar loss. I like to take it small steps, and then learn how to stop big loss. I like to start from small size with small gains.

The pattern I like to learn is to take loss, loss, loss and big win pattern. But before that, I like to work on small transaction.

Money management: Stock market is best school to find my weakness - Questrade.com

 Sept. 17, 2020

Introduction

I have to learn how to play safe on stock market, work on my portfolio called Victoria using Questrade.com.

My big loss starting from Sept. 31, 2020

I did not learn how to stop big loss. I also was afraid when the market is selloff. But it is time for me to learn how to work on money management.

Money management

I like to take big risk up to $6000 dollars, all my gains from March 2019 to August 31, 2020. Instead I should push myself to learn how to work on money management, play safe bet on stock market.

There are so many opportunities for me to invest, I do not have to take so big risk to get my long term investment goals.

Market is so volatile, and it is hard for me to figure out true value of those stocks - SU.TO, HSE.TO, IMO.TO.

I could take profit over $600 dollars in one day after I purchased on August 31, 2020. And then there is big loss over $1000, $2000, and until I noticed the loss is over $6000 dollars. I did not choose to stop loss on each position. I was thinking about investing long term.

Money management: Stock market is best school to find my weakness - Ameritrade.com

 Sept. 17, 2020

Introduction

I like to write down my money management lesson - stop big loss starting from March 27, 2020.

My lessons

I did not learn how to manage my money in the last 30 years. All problems show up through my stock investment account.

I invested in SABR starting from June 8, 2020. Loss is $700.00.

                Loss

SABR     -$700.00

INTC      -$550

June 8 $13,000 dollars purchase - loss of over $2000 in three days

Sept. 11, 2020

I started to learn how to stop big losses. As a beginner, it is important for me to learn how to stop big losses. In real life, as a 53-year-old, I must save and avoid big expenses as well, until I can make sure that I can have a roof over my head, and car to drive, and a place to go to work. As a single person, I do not have family life with children. I must stay away from relatives, avoid taking advantage of my weakness.

Money management is tough for me to correct my bad habit in such a brief time.

I got up at 6:00 AM, stayed at home, sat all the time, studied market, my positions. I like to write down what I learn, and what I can investigate.

April 2010 - Sept. 2020

I spent over $5000 dollars on a vacation trip to China, airline ticket in 2011 over $1300 US dollars; I have impulsive shopping and spent over $5000 dollars for one month vacation. I love to have parties with relatives, I will spend one year salary for local person in the city of Yichun just for my vacation.

I do not save long term for my home in the city of Vancouver. I try to avoid investing in real estate since I know the challenge of handling a big mortgage. I still had over $30,000 US dollars home equity in Florida from 2010 to 2018.

I spent seven vacations in China, and then over $20,000 Canadian dollars. The real estate price - surrey condominium went up in 2017 from $160,000 to $300,000 dollars.

Follow up

Nov. 10, 2023

I should be able to compare Suncor stock I invested for a short term to other stocks I invested. I should invest on those stocks with over 40,000 employees like Suncor back in 2020.

To be frugal is the start to build wealth. I have to learn how business works and take some risk to learn and invest on stock market during pandemic.

It is not easy to find my own bias, and it takes hard work to learn how to find good opportunities in the US stock market in 2020.

INTC stock: Lessons I learn and my plan of investment

 Sept. 16, 2020

Introduction

I like to write down my investment of Intel stock, and lessons I learn and my plan to invest again.

Lessons I learn

Here is my purchase history.

I sold 40 shares of Intel stock today, what I should do is to sell 40 shares of Intel and set limit around $50.9/ share.

I did make mistakes to purchase Intel stock at highest price $52.50/ share. I think that I should be humble, only purchase the stock when the price is lowest price. Originally I purchased 170 share on earning day with 10% price drop.

I need to work on ideas to make $571.58 gains in order to make even. I learn so many things about Intel business, and most of important is to hold best stock with cheap value. I guess that it should be around $48.00 dollar, which is best price to purchase.

Because I need to start to build a habit to set stop loss, I can avoid those huge loss like $571.00 dollars. Every time I make purchase, I should think about setting stop loss. Do not be arrogant.

SABR stock: Sell $7.5 dollar/ share, purchase $6.5/ share, 40 - 100 share

 Sept. 16, 2020

Introduction

I have over $700 dollars loss on SABR stock, so I like to make a plan on this stock. Purchase $6.5/ share, sell $7.5/ share. Keep the capital around 40 to 100 shares, so that one day I can get those loss back.

Lessons learned from the position

It is technology stock. I like to hold those positions for long term. Right now, I like to learn from market swings first.

GE stock: Sept 16, 2020 - 1:46 PM - pop 7.5%

 Here is the article.

Why General Electric Stock Just Popped 7.5%

Shares of industrials giant General Electric (NYSE:GE) are hopping in afternoon trading Wednesday, up 7.5% as of 1:10 p.m. EDT as GE CEO Larry Culp expounds on the company's plans at a Morgan Stanley investor event currently in progress.

What's driving GE shares higher? TheFly.com is giving minute-by-minute updates on the CEO's comments. Among the encouraging news:

  • GE's recent second quarter -- the results from which were not great -- is likely to have been the "toughest period" GE will experience this year.
  • GE burned through $3 billion in negative free cash flow in the first half of this year, according to data from S&P Global Market Intelligence. However, this year's second half should show improvement, with cash flow (if not free cash flow) at least turning positive. (Cash flow alone was negative $1.4 billion in the first half, with the remainder of the cash burn accounted for by capital investments.)
  • And GE expects to have momentum on its side as it emerges from 2020 into 2021.

Actionable Items

If I know the news that GE stock will go up, I can purchase $15,000 US dollars and put a trailing limit order to catch gains over 5% in one day. I have to learn how to follow the news, and read update from GE once a while.
