Case study: How to measure the loss?

Jan. 13, 2019

Introduction

It is my personal finance research. How to measure financial loss? I am not sure in personal finance business, how to define those expenses and analyze them properly.

Case study

In 2012, I sold VIGRX fund since I original paid $3000 dollars, but the value went down below $2000, so I sold it in 2012. And I never review again and try to purchase again the same fund. I did not spend time to study the economics and market, and understand the growth and up-and-downs.

From 1999 to 2001, I spent clothing shopping over $6,000 US Dollars, I spent in 1999 on citi credit card $7000 dollar wants not need items. I did not know how to classify those items in personal business accounting term. One thing I knew that I could not take with me from Florida to Vancouver, since I could not put all those items into my Ford Explorer. How to count those expenses as loss?

I just learn a term called mini leaks, I like to learn personal finance and how to handle those disposable expenses, how to budget and manage those expenses.
