Dr. Qian Lin is an R&D director developing image and video analysis technologies for enterprise information management in Hewlett-Packard software. Prior to that, Dr. Lin was the director of the Multimedia Understanding and Interaction research program at HP Labs, with projects in multimedia analysis and composition, personalized publishing and content cloud services. Dr. Lin and her team contributed a number of key imaging technologies to HP’s award-winning products. The imaging pipeline technologies have been shipped in millions of printers, MFPs, and digital cameras. The composition engine technologies are integrated in retail photo kiosks and Snapfish online photo services. The SmartPrint software analyzes web pages intelligently to save paper and ink, and has been downloaded tens of millions of times. The Pluribus Interactive camera-projector system was considered to be “one of five top innovations that will reinvent computing” by PC Magazine in 2008. More recently, Dr. Lin led her team to develop face and object recognition technologies for enterprise information analytics, security and surveillance, and big data applications. Dr. Lin joined the Hewlett-Packard Company in 1992.
She received her BS from Xi’an Jiaotong University in China, her master’s of electrical engineering from Purdue University, and her PhD in electrical engineering from Stanford University. Dr. Qian Lin is inventor/co-inventor for 35 issued patents. Dr. Lin was awarded Fellowship by the Society of Imaging Science and Technology (IS&T) in 2012.
