Cathie Wood's weekly recap: sells AMD, Shopify, builds exposure in Chinese AI, biotech & Netflix
Last week, Cathie Wood's Ark Invest made a series of high-profile portfolio moves focused on innovation and technology stocks. The most notable investments included significant purchases in Robinhood Markets (HOOD), Netflix (NFLX), and Baidu (BIDU), while the funds also made notable sales such as Shopify (SHOP) and Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) shares.
"The valuations [of Chinese tech stocks] are quite different. They're roughly half of what they are in the United States. We're very impressed at how quickly China is moving here," Ark Invest founder and CEO Cathie Wood mentioned in an interview earlier.
Top stocks bought last week:
- Ark is building back into Robinhood (HOOD) across funds; it added $21.3 million worth of HOOD shares across its flagship ETFs.
- Besides, its Ark Next Generation Internet ETF (BATS:ARKW) bought 15,756 shares of Netflix (NFLX), worth $17.2 million, following a decline in Netflix’s (NFLX) stock price. Prior to this trade, Ark and its suite of exchange traded funds held no position in the streaming giant. Following the buy, Netflix now ranks as ARKW’s 40th-largest holding among 49 total positions, accounting for a 0.77% allocation.
- ARK continues to heavily accumulate Pacific Bioscience (PACB), adding ~2.39M shares and also reinforced genomics conviction by adding ~290K shares of 10x Genomics (TXG) across its funds Genomic Revolution fund (BATS:ARKG).
- The fund continued accumulation of Baidu (BIDU) was seen, with Ark purchasing around 105K shares across multiple ETFs, and all also added over 61K shares of Alibaba (BABA).
- The flagship ARKK fund added more than 20K shares of tech giant Qualcomm (QCOM) on October 20, bringing its overall exposure across funds to more than $33M.
- The fund also added shares of Chinese EV giant BYD Company (OTCPK:BYDDF), reflecting a nod toward EV and robotics automation.
- Bought ~234K shares of medicine biotechnology company Arcturus Therapeutics (ARCT), bringing its stake to over $26M.
- Among other stocks added were Intuitive Surgical (ISRG), L3 Harriss Technologies (LHX), Teledyne Technologies (TDY), Synopsys (SNPS), Exact Sciences (EXAS), Illumina (ILMN), and Klarna Group (KLAR).
Top stocks sold last week:
- AMD (AMD) and Kratos (KTOS) both saw repeated sales, shifting focus from hardware and defense tech toward software-driven AI and biotech. Ark offloaded ~78K shares of Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) last week. Total exposure in AMD still stands at over $650M across all Ark funds.
- Palantir (PLTR), Shopify (SHOP), user-generated games platform Roblox (RBLX), and Roku (ROKU) were sold consistently across multiple funds. The funds offloaded ~100k shares in Shopify.
- Besides Adaptive Biotech (ADPT), Personalis (PSNL), and Guardant Health (GH) all sold in the ARKG fund.
- Among other stocks sold were Oklo (OKLO), Veracyte (VCYT), CareDx (CDNA), Tempus AI (TEM), Personalis (PSNL), Iridium Communications (IRDM), Quantum-Si (QSI), and Sofi technologies (SOFI).
