Case study: 2000 Citibank credit card statements

January 6, 2019

Introduction

It is my personal finance research. I push myself to learn personal finance, and last Friday I found out that I can request statements from citi credit card from 1996 to 2018. My account was closed in 2017 since I did not use it more than 12 months. I only can request 12 statements and it takes 24 to 48 hours, so I will request statements from 1996 to 2017. It will take me some time to get all statements.

Case study

I have monthly mortgage payment $450.00, and also Ford Explorer car payment $398.00 us dollars. Here was my monthly statement on citi credit card.

  January 1, 2000    Monthly statement:  $477.85
  Feb. 22, 2000       Monthly statement:  $594.14
  Aug. 24, 2000      Monthly statement:  $361.00
  Nov. 22, 2000      Monthly statement:  $1182.82
  Dec. 22, 2000      Monthly statement:  $2046.50

Total: $4662.31

My analysis in 2019

I think that one of reasons I could not have personal finance success is that I chose to spend money I earned on personal vacation, clothing and vacation with my mom. I did not follow the principle of delay gratification.

I did not spend time to learn how to contribute to the community, the company I was working for, and also show support for next generation for better education and opportunities etc.

I did not show any concern about how hard the company tried to survive as a startup company.
