TFSA - how to think about tax issues?
Nov. 28, 2019
I was confused about TFSA about tax issues after I read Canada government website. So I continued to do research, I found a good article to explain tax issue very clearly.
Here is the article.
With a tax-free savings account (TFSA), you can grow your money with various kinds of investments, including bonds, stocks, mutual funds and exchange-traded funds – not just cash. Your investment return could potentially be in the high single- or even the low double-digits, if your investments perform well. Or you could lose money, if they don’t. Just keep an eye on your contribution limit, which currently stands at $5,500 per year (and rises to $6,000 per year in 2019), in addition to whatever you had withdrawn from your TFSA in an earlier year and are now re-contributing. Unlike RRSP contributions, your TFSA contributions aren’t tax deductible. But because you’ve already paid income tax on the money you put in your TFSA, you won’t have to pay tax when you take it out. And any investment income you earn won’t be taxed – not even when you take the money out of your TFSA.

TFSA - tax issues
While a TFSA offers tax-free growth, the restrictions on the investments you hold in it might mean it will take a few days to withdraw your money. This could be highly inconvenient if the rain is pouring through the hole in your roof in the meantime, or your car has broken down hundreds of miles from home.
To cover such situations, you could keep some money in a high-interest savings account. While these don’t offer the growth potential of a TFSA because you can’t hold investments in them, they do pay slightly more interest than an ordinary savings account. The interest you get depends on your bank and your balance. Since your money isn’t locked in, it’s much easier to get at when you need it. Unlike a TFSA, there’s no limit to the amount you can put in a high-interest savings account, but you do have to pay income tax on the interest you earn. Note that you can have a registered high-interest savings account itself as a TFSA, in which case TFSA contribution limits and tax treatment apply.
Not sure what’s right for you? An advisor can help you decide which savings option (it could be more than one) can help you grow your money during good times and have it on hand when hard times come along.
How to avoid these 4 common TFSA mistakes
Here is the article.
It’s easy to see why. As the name says, any investment you hold inside your TFSA grows tax-free. Plus, you can withdraw from these accounts whenever you want. You can use your TFSA to help pay for a new home, your children’s education or even retirement. And you’re not taxed when you take the money out, either.

6 really useful things you can do with your TFSA
Here is the article.
My takeaway is the following:
You can “refill” your TFSA. Unlike RRSPs, RESPs or any other registered accounts, your TFSA contribution limit isn’t a one-time thing. Suppose, for example, you’ve contributed the maximum to your TFSA this year, but then need to withdraw $10,000. (Remembering, of course, that there’s no tax on the withdrawal, whether you’re withdrawing principal, interest or investment growth.) Next year, in addition to the regular annual contribution limit, you’ll be able to re-contribute that $10,000. Just don’t try re-contributing in the same calendar year that you take it out, if you’ve already used up that year’s contribution room.

124. Binary Tree Maximum Path Sum
Here is the link.
C# mock interview practice on Nov 24, 2019 with insights
Nov 25, 2019
It is one of my mock interview algorithms. I solved the algorithm but I also experienced the nervousness since I could not remember if I solved the algorithm before. It is a hard level algorithm, and I like to write down how to approach the algorithm in the contest or mock interview or onsite.
It is one of my mock interview algorithms. I solved the algorithm but I also experienced the nervousness since I could not remember if I solved the algorithm before. It is a hard level algorithm, and I like to write down how to approach the algorithm in the contest or mock interview or onsite.
I solved all tree algorithms on Leetcode six months ago. But my generic approach is to solve all easy level algorithms on Leetcode.com first, and then move to medium level. So it is important for me to explain how to approach this hard level algorithm since I solved similar easy level tree algorithm called longest univalue path, my discussion post is here. I am still in the accumulation stage to solve as many algorithms as possible. Be greedy, solve easy one, solve one with less time first, solve ones to help me build confidence, increase curiosity, and expand my comfortable zone.
Case study
I like to go over the example and explain to myself how to approach the problem. Let me show some diagram with my thought process in my mock interview.

I like to go over the example, and explain how I ask question what to do based on example 2.

I like to go over the example, and explain how I ask question what to do based on example 2.

After the work out on example 2, I learned that I need to work on an extra task to calculate the path cross the root node. The whole process from example 1 and example 2 took me around 10 to 15 minutes.
If you cannot follow the process, then I can advice you to review the post I have about longest univalue path. Here is the link.
I spent two months to interview people on interiviewing.io using a few binary tree algorithms almost every weekday, I learn and work every day on tree algorithms. Those interviewees are best teachers in the world and they brought all their education and industry experience to demonstrate how good thinkers are, I learn to build up my curiousity and be a real problem solver, open to all ideas as an interviewer and determin to make the idea work, remove bias and avoid memorization of a solution, ask good questions to follow the idea and understand the question.

Case study: My graduate study from 2018 August to 2010 April
Nov. 25, 2019
I like to write a blog to talk about how to do a good research, what I learned through committee.
I used to worry about a lot of things starting from 2009 January to September. But at that time, I should also appreciate that I had such great support from my graduate study committee, I had chance to meet professors and had discussion on my research every week. Even though I did not come out concrete ideas to write a nice paper, but I did learn from those professors. How they treat me as a peer, listen to me and give me some advice.
At that time, I will not believe that one day I can be a such great researcher; I can just change the area like personal finance, investment analysis, and then I just push myself to move forward. I learn Harvard business case study method, I just start from simple case study, one after the another one, and learn from my own experience.
Introduction
I like to write a blog to talk about how to do a good research, what I learned through committee.
My case study
I used to worry about a lot of things starting from 2009 January to September. But at that time, I should also appreciate that I had such great support from my graduate study committee, I had chance to meet professors and had discussion on my research every week. Even though I did not come out concrete ideas to write a nice paper, but I did learn from those professors. How they treat me as a peer, listen to me and give me some advice.

Weekend learning summary - Nov 23 - 24
Nov. 25, 2019
It is a good idea to review what I have learned last two days. I just could not believe that I should work on Leetcode algorithm practice, but I chose to watch so many videos to learn stock market, hedge fund and so many videos.
I like to summarize what I have learned about stock market, investment and all other topics.

It is the hardest question but best one
Nov. 25, 2019
It is my personal finance research. I remembered that this year I was asked by Facebook recruiter what have you done since August 2018 Facebook phone screen. It is so hard for me to review what I have learned and completed. I like to write a blog on this topic.
Because I have experience to write blogs every day, it is not challenging for me to write first showcase called lowest common ancestor. Here is the link.
I learn that it is not a good idea to solve a lot problems as quick as possible. I have to focus on a simple tree algorithm, and train myself to think using various ideas to solve the problem. Therefore I can build confidence in terms of being a good thinker.

What have you completed?
I decided to write some show case to demonstrate how good I can solve problems, but in reality I stuck on simple depth first search backtracking understanding, and also space complexity causing timeout or run-time error.Because I have experience to write blogs every day, it is not challenging for me to write first showcase called lowest common ancestor. How to be a good learner on youtube.com?
Nov. 24, 2019
It is my personal finance research. I like to learn business, investment and technology all day long in weekends based on youtube.com. I know that it is more important to read articles as well. Reading is more important compared to watching videos. But in order to find ideas what to read, I have to start from very good quality videos first. The recommendation does very good job on this.
I learn from my own experience. It is tough to stay at home whole weekend except two hours a day to do exercise or shopping. I have a lot of nutrition food, and I also choose not to go to church event. I like to learn more business on youtube.com.
I think that there are over 200,000 Chinese people in Vancouver area. I like to spend time to learn more about personal finance. I did spend whole week in 2018 at home and it was the first time in my life I learned that I had to do book keeping, review who I am as a consumer, how intelligent I am to manage myself.
As a single person, I may have not confidence to be a millionaire. I used to struggle so much in United States, but I did not learn that it is part of process of learning and growth of rich and wealth.

Nov. 24, 2019
Introduction
It is my first mock interview this weekend. I did not play weekly contest since I chose to prepare online code screen. But I did not work on Leetcode until Sunday evening 10:00 PM. It was so hard for me to work on mock interview, since I got used to surf internet and watch videos related to stock and how to invest, AI and other interesting thing the whole weekend.
Performance review
Here is my performance report.
I chose to solve the last algorithm since tree algorithm is my most favorite algorithm.

Nowadays, with the vigorous development of educational equity in our country, the distribution of educational resources between rural and urban areas, big cities and small cities is not more equitable, but more disparity. I think the Internet is a good opportunity for students to get the best educational resources at the lowest cost. I feel that my value has been maximized by the Internet. This is my original intention. I hope I can continue to adhere to this original intention.

Case study: Lottery winner
Here is the article.
Richard Lustig
“I’ve been rich and I’ve been poor, and I like rich a whole lot better.”
Richard Lustig is one of the rare exceptions. The 65-year-old Florida man is a seven-time lottery game grand-prize winner who is still basking in riches after hitting it big about two decades ago. “Obviously it’s changed my life big time,” he told TIME on Tuesday. “I’ve been rich and I’ve been poor, and I like rich a whole lot better. We’ve lived in big, fancy houses. I drive a Jaguar. We’ve gone on cruises. I can’t complain.”

The former professional drummer, who banked his largest payout of $842,000 playing Mega Money, has kept most of his earnings and wrote the book, Learn How to Increase Your Chances of Winning the Lottery, in 2010 after his latest lotto win of $90,000.
The book has been flying off shelves in the last two weeks. “It’s been insanity. We’ve sold thousands of dollars because of all the publicity,” he said. “We wait for these kinds of moments, when jackpots get really high. When it happens, boom!”
Lustig, who has two children with his wife of 30 years, said the key to staying happy is to hire a good financial planner and a good accountant after paying off all debts. “I’m smarter than that,” he said. “People, they just don’t think. You have to secure your future.” “The reason why you hear those horror stories about people who win huge amounts like that and all of a sudden they’re filing bankruptcy is because it’s usually from people who have never had that kind of money before in their lives,” he added. “They just go through it like crazy. They think there’s no tomorrow. Well, there is a tomorrow and eventually it will run out.”
Here’s How Winning the Lottery Makes You Miserable
Here is the article.
Sandra Hayes
“These are people who you’ve loved deep down, and they’re turning into vampires trying to suck the life out of me”
Sandra Hayes won the Missouri lottery in 2006 and split a $224 million Powerball with a dozen coworkers. The St. Louis woman is now a retired social worker and wrote the book, How Winning the Lottery Changed My Life. She told the Associated Press she had to “adapt to this new life” which changed how she saw her closest family and friends. “I had to endure the greed and the need that people have, trying to get you to release your money to them,” she said in 2012. “That caused a lot of emotional pain. These are people who you’ve loved deep down, and they’re turning into vampires trying to suck the life out of me.”

Jim Cramer - China IPO analysis

How should I rush to learn basics of AI?
Nov. 24, 2019
It is my personal finance research. I went to Facebook onsite interview this August, I met a few friends in California as well. One of them is a Linkedin manager and he gave me a gift for six month free premium account, and one is principle scientist of AI in Mercedes. Another friend also coached me how to find jobs before dinner, who works for Google. This December one of friends will come to Vancouver to attend a conference of AI.
I learn the lesson that I wasted 20 years from 1999 to 2019 since I did not learn how to invest; I spent almost whole year to learn how to invest in 2019. The lesson is to start early.
How to learn AI and start to build interest on this area?
Dialpad is the startup company I have strong interest to learn.

$150 registration for tutorials - Should I attend the conference?
Nov. 24, 2019
It is holiday season. I am really looking for great ideas to meet and learn more about business, AI. My friend will visit Vancouver, and then I figure out that I also can attend the conference if I pay $150 Canada dollars for tutorials.
I like to check out my frugal leadership and see if I can make a good decision on this choice. Here is my blog about the conference.
It is better to save $150 dollars and then I go to youtube.com, search those speakers and learn from their past presentation.
One thing is to reason how good it is to pay $50 dollars for each of three sessions. I will meet my friend working for AI Mercedes if there is chance.

It is my linkedin update. I got the notification that top 5% pay is around $100,000 Canada dollars/ US dollars. I like to figure out how to make transition from average paid job to top 5% job.
It is not too tough for me to apply the job since I already went to onsite for those jobs from Amazon and Facebook. I also like to learn how to push myself work hard, and train myself more on basics of problem solving.

December 2019 and a conference in Vancouver
Nov. 24, 2019
It is a conference related to AI, here is the link. My friend will come to the city of Vancouver from Sillicon Valley. She posted it on wechat, and I like to write a blog how I should work on.
I knew the friend near two decades. She is the principal scientist of Mercedes. I spent some time to research her profile on Linkedin.com. She has very successful career. She used to be a professor for top engineering school and also she worked as multiple jobs, at least 3 jobs last 20 years.
She told me that she got three offers in one month when she moved the whole family to Sillicon Valley. She told me two years ago when she and her family visited Vancouver. At that time, I did not really understand how hard it is. Now I understood better.
I had onsite from Amazon Seattle in 2018, and then 2018 August phone screen from Facebook, and then 2019 August onsite from Facebook. I never had any offer and I am hunger for more understanding.
I went to Facebook onsite interview and we met with other friends in Sillicon valley, a city called San Mateo near the airport. I wrote a blog about our dinner together with friends in Florida.
I like to come out some ideas to work on. Maybe I should learn from conferences as well. It is time for me to learn how to learn something about AI.
