Abt stock: Abott stock is so important to market uptrend on August 28, 2020
August 28, 2020
Introduction
Knowledge is power. Knowledge is also the way to build wealth. I did not know on August 27, Abott lab released this quick $5 dollar 15 minutes test which can solve so many problems in the business. So I did not catch big gains on August 28, 2020.
Abt stock
I just added one more portfolio in my Yahoo -> Finance, so that I can track Abt stock daily. I need to read more carefully about Abott company and news update related to Coronavirus.
I still tried to figure out if oil stocks will go down this Friday, but I was so surprised that it did not go down.
S&P 500 Up Again as Carnival, MGM, Delta Stocks Surge on Consumer Spending Growth
Here is the article.
On this news, along with continued momentum from Thursday's big news that the Food and Drug Administration had approved a 15-minute COVID-19 test costing $5, investors continued to buy shares of companies seen as being big beneficiaries of fast, cheap testing. These include cruise stocks, airline stocks, and casino and hotel stocks. Leading the charge today was Carnival (NYSE:CCL) with shares up almost 7%; along with Wynn Resorts and Alaska Air, up nearly 6%; and MGM Resorts International (NYSE:MGM) and Marriott International (NASDAQ:MAR), up more than 4%.
More interesting reading and also thinking...
Add in the prospects of a rapid, cheap coronavirus test that doesn't have to go to a lab to be processed, and investors are piling into businesses that have seen their biggest downturns since March, but could see big gains once they're able to return to business as usual.
Prospects for these businesses may not be as rosy as investors expect, however. MGM just announced that it was laying off 18,000 workers, while United Airlines Holdings, American Airlines Group, and Delta could cut well over 50,000 workers combined, barring federal aid that requires them to keep those employees on payroll. Air traffic is still down some 70%, and the airlines are bleeding cash.
The case is the same for cruise companies, where it's even worse since the entire industry remains under a "no sail" order in the U.S. from the Centers for Disease Control that's unlikely to be lifted anytime soon.
WDC stock: My position of 100 shares and lessons I learn
if you followed things like wdc or mu long enough, you should know these type of stocks going up and down within a certain range, sometime the market will effect the range more or less, but they are solid companies, nothing really changes about how they doing things, so, just buy low, sell high, the process might be slow, but most of times, they are the sure thing.
Lessons I learned
I got up around 6:30 AM, and then read the stock price. I got up at 7:00 AM, WDC went up 3.0%, and then I watched the price went up 6.20% from 7:00 AM to 9:30 AM.
I do think that it is important to learn day trading skills. What I should do is to understand that I should use my cash $3000 to purchase WDC stock, and also sell Intel stock, purchase WDC stock.
Because I knew the price I bought 10% loss on earning day of WDC, and then there are another 9% loss. So it is smart to have some skills to put trust into my analysis.
So in other words, I can make $300 dollars this morning by doing good research over a few months, and also hard working, reading a lot of articles, understand the intrinsic value of WDC above $50 dollars.

Investing Money: Learn How To Invest
August 27, 2020
Introduction
It is so important for me to learn something about investment. I like to spend time to invest on stocks, hours I spend to workon quickly go up to over a few hundreds of hours. But I do not find good material to work on. This one is the very good to learn from. I just could not believe how good the presentation is.
Investing Money: Learn How To Invest
Investor's business day
Successfully investing in the stock market starts with learning how to read stock charts. Charts can help you judge whether a stock is worth buying or should be sold if you already own shares. And using charts is not as hard as you might think. Here's why. Money is important, and one key way to make your hard-earned dollars work for you is by investing in the stock market. And we have tips for how you can increase your chances of buying winning stocks, starting with how to read stock charts. Not everyone can be a successful stock picker like Warren Buffett. So to increase the probability you’re actually making money, rather than losing it — that’s where charts come in. Charts tell a story. They are a visual representation of the important things happening to a company. A positive earnings report, the results of a drug trial, negative analyst commentary, an acquisition announcement, and more. All of these things are clues as to whether you’re making a good investment. So rather than randomly buying, say, Apple, just because you can’t imagine life without your iPhone, charts can show you whether Apple is the best stock to buy right now. We’ll get into the specifics of what exactly to look for in the charts to help you make buying and selling decisions. But in general, you want to be buying a stock that is trending higher. Your experience with Wall Street doesn’t have to be risky like gambling in Vegas. You always want the odds in your favor when you’re investing, and you can definitely do that with charts. Learning how to invest in stocks is an important first step to building wealth. But where do you start? How do you buy stocks? How do you know when to sell stocks? Do you really need to know how to read stock charts? You'll find the answers to all those questions as we continue to add new How To Invest videos to this page. How To Start Investing In Stocks: Before you start investing in stocks, it's important to learn how the stock market works and understand some basic rules about how to buy stocks and when to sell stocks. At Investor's Business Daily, you'll find a time-tested investing strategy known as the CAN SLIM Investing System. Developed from our unique study of every market cycle since the 1880s, the CAN SLIM system identifies the seven common traits of winning stocks. And the videos below will show you how to apply various aspects of the CAN SLIM strategy. Be sure to subscribe and keep coming back, as we'll be adding new How To Invest videos on chart patterns, buying and selling and more topics in the days and weeks ahead. Three months recall: over $3000 dollar losses vs over $3000 dollars gains
August 27, 2020
Introduction
I started to purchase stocks by myself and learn the lesson of trading stocks, how volatile the stock is. I like to write a two-purchase story, and then make comparison. As a beginner, a lot of people like to learn the skills how to invest and learn business.
June 8, 2020 - $13,000 US dollar purchase
I made purchase of stocks first time over $13,000 dollars and made over $1,000 dollars gains, but I did not sell and then most of stocks went down, and after more than 2 months, some stocks still have over 30% loss. I had over $3000 dollars losses, all my gains on June 5, 2020 are wiped out. I like to show my Ameritrade.com balance history. It shows the lesson for a beginner to learn what market price is.
July 31, 2020 - over $30,000 Canadian purchase

Explained: What does Trump's relaxation of visa norms mean for tech companies?
Here is the article.
The Trump administration has decided to relax on the ban on H1B and L1 visa holders to travel to the US until the end of the year. As per an advisory released by the US state department, H1B and L1 visa holders will be allowed to enter the US if they are returning to the same jobs they had prior to the visa ban.
The advisory has three conditions. The ban is relaxed for those seeking to resume ongoing employment in US 1) in the same position 2) with the same employer 3) with the same visa classifications.
On June 22, US President Donald Trump signed an executive order suspending immigrants who 'pose a threat to the US labour market', barring issuance of H1B, L, J, and H2 visas. The proclamation stated that the suspension applies to 'those who do not have an effective non-immigrant visa from the date of the proclamation to Dec 31 and those who are outside the US on the date the proclamation takes effect'.
Three ideas to make stock purchase easy
August 27, 2020
Introduction
As a beginner to invest stock market, I made mistakes last weekend. I did not enter my order to purchase Canada oil stocks, and then I waited until this Monday morning to enter orders. I got up too later and tried to enter around 7:00 AM, the stock price of those oil stock went up quickly with more than 3% to 5%, I had hard time to enter the order. So I like to write down three idea to make stock purchase easy.
Three ideas
I like to work on project management. I should take risk to purchase stocks over $40,000 - $50,000 dollars in one day with at least 4 Canada oil stocks in the same time, each stock I should not purchase more than $10,000 Canada dollars.
I think that I should learn how to analyze stock price, and then set up purchase of stocks using GTC. I have to learn how to make plan, and take risk once the stock price drops down.
Second idea is to learn how to calm down for a big purchase. One thing is to learn as an investor, invest long term at least three months.
Third idea is to think about how to stay frugal and cut cost in my living expenses; And also I should think about how to manage each purchase better.
Three ideas to make 10 days better
August 27, 2020
Introduction
It is so surprising to learn that I will have Microsoft Vacouver phone screen in the second week of September. I like to write down a few good ideas to make those 10 days much better than other days.
Three ideas to make 10 days better
I like to practice more algorithms in next two weeks.
Here are three ideas:
- Work on 20 - 40 algorithms in next 10 days;
- Work on mock interviews as an interviewee, 10 interviews at least;
- Work on investment of Microsoft and Facebook stocks first time in last 20 years.
Dow Jones: Learn some basics
Here is the article written on August 27, 2020.
Three of the 30 stocks that make up the Dow Jones Industrial Average will be replaced at the end of this month. Standard & Poor's, which manages the blue-chip index, announced on Monday that current constituents ExxonMobil (NYSE:XOM), Pfizer (NYSE:PFE), and Raytheon Technologies (NYSE:RTX) will be swapped out with Salesforce.com (NYSE:CRM), Amgen (NASDAQ:AMGN), and Honeywell International (NYSE:HON), respectively.
Updates of the Dow's components aren't unusual. Not including changes stemming from mergers and acquisitions, Standard & Poor's altered the Dow's components most recently in 2018 when it replaced General Electric with Walgreens Boots Alliance. Like the recently announced restructuring, that one was ultimately intended to make the Dow a more accurate cross-section of the U.S. market.
Still, when 10% of an entire index's holdings are scheduled for replacement in one sweeping move, it could lead buy-and-hold investors that own Dow-based index funds to wonder how much buying-and-holding they're really able to do with those instruments. If that's you, don't worry. The overdue move actually makes it more comfortable for long-term investors to own Dow-based ETFs and mutual funds.
Interesting facts to learn
Down Jone is related to price
The explanation touches on something not fully clarified within the announcement. Unlike most other indices that assign a "weight" -- or degree of influence -- to a holding based on that company's total capitalization, the Dow Jones Industrial Average is a price-weighted index. For example, constituent shares priced at $100 apiece cause more net change for the Dow than shares of a $50 stock do, even if that $100 stock represents a smaller organization. It's entirely possible the smallest name in the Dow (as measured by market cap) could still make the biggest impact on the index's daily point changes if that company's stock was the highest-priced ticker among the 30 that make up the Dow Jones Industrial Average.
In other words, the pricing methodology used creates a situation where the Dow isn't necessarily an accurate, collective reflection of the stock market's most established names.
Before - Dow Jones - heavy on Apple, at end of Sept, it will not since Apple splits shares
Maybe you liked the Dow's mix as it was: heavy on Apple, pharmaceuticals, energy, and defense, but light on tech, biotech, and industrials. Maybe you're not a fan of Amgen, which posted encouraging quarterly numbers in July, but otherwise hasn't been a high-growth machine of late.
Stock purchase: TFSA account
August 27, 2020
Introduction
It is time consuming as a beginner, I like to read so many articles about business and also learn from companies, today WLMT went up 5%, MSFT 3%, and then every day those biggest companies have over 3% change. I do think that it is better for me to spend time to look into and make purchase. I am still practicing trade.
TFSA - Canada oil stock
I set up trades to purchase:
PPL 300 shares $32.50
CVE.TO 1000 $6.10
SU.TO 500 share $20.50
HSE 1000 share $4.20
IMO 500 share $21.12
As a beginner, I have to train my thoughts and attitude towards market, and learn how business works in this tough time of coronavirus.

Facebook could be the next $1 trillion company. Here’s how
Here is the link.
The stock hit an all-time high Tuesday, closing at $280.82, and has roared 105% off its March low. Even after that run, Cowen analysts are still backing the company — the firm on Tuesday set a Street high price target of $330 on the stock, highlighting increased exposure to e-commerce as a major tailwind.
Tatro says the fundamentals are still in Facebook’s favor — the stock trades at 30 times forward earnings, well below the 50 times multiple for the SOCL global social media ETF.
“The company I think is hindered with this regulatory concern, but I think traders can really catch some further upside. I’d keep a stop around the $260 level just in case. But I think this is on its way to the trillion-dollar market cap club,” said Tatro.
Facebook has a market cap of $800.8 billion. To top $1 trillion, its shares would need to reach $351, according to CNBC data. Only four S&P 500 companies — Apple, Amazon, Microsoft and Alphabet — have a market cap of more than $1 trillion.

What is a Message Queue and Where is it used?
Here is the link.
Messaging Queues are widely use in asynchronous systems. Message processing in an asynchronous fashion allows the client to relieve itself from waiting for a task to complete and, hence, can do other jobs during that time. It also allows a server to process it's jobs in the order it wants to. Messaging Queues provide useful features such as persistence, routing and task management. We will be discussing the benefits of a message queue in future videos. A system having a message queue can move to higher level requirements while abstracting implementation details of message delivery and event handling to the messaging queue. The 'queue' is just a name for this data structure. In practice, it could be storing messages using any policy. Some examples of message queues are Kafka and RabbitMQ. They are widely used for various purposes such as command query request segregation (CQRS) and event sourcing.
Designing Instagram: System Design of News Feed
Here is the link.
This video is about designing Instagram in for a system design interview. We are expected to design the server side in a way that all 4 mentioned features can be incorporated. System Design interviews evaluate a candidate's computer science fundamentals, architecture principles and so on. We start by building an entity relationship diagram. Here the columns are defined as per the requirements. We then move to designing a microservice architecture. Each microservice defines a single component of the system. The newsfeed is built step by step with concepts like load balancing and caching as prerequisites. This completes the system design for Instagram.
System Design: Tinder as a microservice architecture
Here is the link.

Tinder architecture
1. Store profiles (Images) - 5 images per user
2. Recommend matches (No of active users)
3. Note match x10^-3
4. Direct messaging
File vs Blob -> Binary large object
4. Access control
x 1
1. Cheaper
2. Footer
3. Content Delivery Network
We design the system architecture of Tinder. Designing these apps starts with clarifying the system requirements. In an interview, Tinder has multiple requirements. When designing the system, we will be drawing logical components and defining their interactions with other services based on the microservice architecture. We assume that any internal details can be handled with our prior knowledge of system design concepts. This includes load balancing, message queues, databases etc... The Tinder system has four requirements: storing profiles, recommendations, noting matches and chatting with matches. Storing profiles is trivial except for the image storage, where we argue on BLOB vs File storage. The distributed file architecture seems best when storing images. Direct Messaging or chatting with matches can be done using the XMPP protocol, which uses web sockets to have peer to peer communications between client and server. Each connection is built over TCP, ensuring that the connection is maintained. The session micro service can send messages to the receiver based on connection to user mappings. Our system is decoupled as much as possible. We try to maintain accept and reject information on the client. On swiping left or right, the client can note the action and avoid showing the same user again, perhaps using bloom filters. The server has a validation engine called the matcher micro service, which notes matches and allows or disallows chat between two users. The final requirement of recommendations needs city wise partitioning on the user data. This is achieved using NoSQL databases like Cassandra or Amazon Dynamo. The other option is to use relational databases with horizontal partitioning. The concept is now referred to as sharding.

After Dow inclusion news, Salesforce stock soars on reveal of first $5 billion quarter
Here is the article.
Should I purchase CRM stock for short term, sell Intel stock 170 shares of $8000 US dollars. After I make some profit, I will purchase back 170 shares of Intel stock.
Salesforce CRM,
Analysts surveyed by FactSet had estimated earnings of 67 cents a share on revenue of $4.9 billion, while Salesforce had forecast earnings of 66 cents to 67 cents a share on revenue of $4.89 billion to $4.9 billion.
On the conference call, Chief Executive Marc Benioff said it was “humbling” and “bittersweet” that the company produced strong results amid the difficulties and tragedies created by the COVID-19 pandemic as businesses need to adapt and connect digitally with their customers. One example mentioned was facilitating the logistics of curbside pickups, which most retailers didn’t offer before the pandemic.
“We all want to get back to how things were, but the reality is that’s never going to happen,” said Chief Executive Marc Benioff on the conference call. “We’re in a new world. We’re in an all-digital world with the work digitally, we’re living digitally, we’re educating digitally.”
That shift into a digital reality showed in Salesforce’s guidance as the company raised its annual revenue outlook for the year. For revenue, the company sees a range of $20.7 billion to $20.8 billion, after previously forecasting $20 billion in sales. For annual adjusted earnings, Salesforce expects $3.72 to $3.74 a share, up from a previous range of $2.93 to $2.95 a share. Analysts expect earnings of $2.97 a share on revenue of $20.01 billion.
Salesforce shares gained 3.6% Tuesday to close at a record high of $216.05 following an announcement from S&P Dow Jones Indices that the stock would replace Exxon Mobil Corp. XOM,
Salesforce shares rallied more than 13% in after-hours trading following the release of the results, pushing for more records. At Tuesday’s close, the stock was up 33% for the year, while the First Trust Cloud Computing ETF SKYY,

Leetcode discuss: Longest ZigZag Path in a Binary Tree
Here is the link.
C# preorder traversal with optimal space and time complexity
- Longest ZigZag Path in a Binary Tree
August 25, 2020
Introduction
It took me over 10 minutes to come out this idea better than brute force solution. The naive idea is to find all paths in the binary tree, and then search all possible zigzag paths in any path.
Better idea is to start from any node, and check it's downward path to leaf node longest zigzag path. If it is left child, then check left child only, since right child should be checked by it's parent node.
Case study
A tree with three nodes, root node with value 1, root node's left child with value 2, and root node's left child's right child with value 3.
The idea is to apply preorder traverse the tree, so the root is visited, and then check it's both directions, and downward zigzag path, only one path, from root node, go to left, and then go to right. The length is 2.
When the root node's left child is visited, only need to check it's left child downward zigzag path, which has length value 0.
Time complexity
average time complexity O(nlogn), logn is average height of tree, n is total number of nodes.
Space complexity
O(1)

}Suncor Energy (TSX:SU): Warren Buffett Just Increased His Stake in This TSX Giant
Here is the article.
Here are my highlights for 10 minutes reading:
- Warren Buffett's investment firm held 14.94 million shares in Suncor at the end of March 2020, now 19.94 million shares at the end of Q2.
- Suncor share price $34 per share, 10.7% dividends in February 2020
- Suncor is currently valued at a market cap of $33.5 billion. Its price-to-sales multiple of 1.1 and price to book ratio of 0.92 indicates that the stock is cheap
According to Berkshire Hathaway’s recent 13F filings, the company has increased its stake in Canada’s energy infrastructure giant Suncor Energy (TSX:SU)(NYSE:SU). Warren Buffett’s investment firm held 14.94 million shares in Suncor at the end of March 2020. Its holding increased to 19.94 million shares at the end of Q2.
Warren Buffett now owns US$318.36 million in Suncor stock indicating a 1.3% stake in the company. While Buffett has been a net seller of equities in 2020, his investment in Suncor should encourage investors.
Berkshire Hathaway holds a position in Suncor since the fourth quarter of 2018 when the stock was trading at $34 per share. Suncor was then a blue-chip dividend-paying company. It, in fact, raised dividends by 10.7% in February 2020 which would have been the company’s 18th consecutive year of dividend increases.
However, the COVID-19 pandemic wreaked havoc and decimated energy stocks that were hurt by global lockdowns and a price war between Saudi Arabia and Russia, resulting in a massive oversupply of crude oil.
And more
In the June quarter, Suncor reported sales of $4.2 billion, down by a significant 58% year over year. Its net loss stood at $614 million in what was the worst quarter for oil stocks in several decades.
However, Suncor is currently valued at a market cap of $33.5 billion. Its price-to-sales multiple of 1.1 and price to book ratio of 0.92 indicates that the stock is cheap. Earnings are also forecast to rise at an annual rate of 20% between 2021 and 2024.
Stock trader: Learn to be the one to trade small size
August 25, 2020
Introduction
I tried to speculate Canada oil stocks this Monday, but I forgot to place orders in Sunday evening. I lost chance to make over $2500 Canada dollars gains in one day. I did enter virtual orders in Yahoo ->Finance->My portfolio. But I learned something from teaching video called placing small orders. So I did sell all my winning orders on Ameritrade.com today. I like to build good habits, one is to work on small orders, and do not bet on big orders.
My filled orders
I only made $20 dollars on SAVE stock, $28 dollars on PEB, and 24.50 on PK stock.
My failed purchase, only on Yahoo finance -> My portfolio:
HSE.TO $575.00, IMO $700.00, SU $430.00, CVE $760.00, total opportunity loss:
$2465.00, the purchase amount is $46,855.00 dollars.
Because I was busy with wechat to answer questions, I was too tired to set priorities in Sunday evening, I forgot to enter the orders into Questrade.com.

Stock purchase: Failed to purchase at 7:00 AM
August 24, 2020
Introduction
The stock market is so sentimental, last Saturday US white house had a news release, so the stock price went up so quickly. I did plan to make purchase first thing in Monday morning. Even though I could purchase before the market, I still waited until 7:00 AM.
8:05 AM status
I could not make purchase since the price went up so quickly. I did make plan what to purchase this time, so Yahoo -> Finance -> My portfolio has virtual update.

Actionable Items
I like to take break and prepare my breakfast and lunch, and go to work. It is so exciting to learn so many things last weekend.
I need to work on my preparation of psychology part. I should relax and put those orders in Sunday evening. It is hard for me to place orders when the market was moving up around 7:00 AM on August 24, 2020.
Preparation, preparation! It is so important for me to stay organized and well prepared. Investing is not an easy task.
August 27, 2020
Wall street worked with US white house and news annoucement last Saturday. I should practice a few time to place order in advance using PTC, so that I feel comfortable to set up purchase ahead of time.
Most important is to take some risk, and learn white house and president election, and try to learn from those events and put together my purchase together.

Investor William J. O'Neil: 23 Trading Rules that will make you a better stock trader
23 Trading Rules That Will Make You a Better Stock Trader
1. Don’t buy cheap stocks. Buy Nasdaq stocks mainly selling between $15 and $300 a share and NYSE stocks from $20 to $300 a share. Avoid the junk pile.
2. Buy growth stocks that show each of the last three years annual earnings per share up at least 25% and the next year’s consensus earnings estimate up 25% or more. Most growth stocks should also have annual cash flow of 20% or more above EPS.
3. Make sure the last two or three-quarters earnings per share are up a huge amount. Look for a minimum of 25% to 30%. In bull markets, look for EPS up 40% to 500% (The higher, the better).
4. See that each of the last three-quarter’s sales is accelerating in their percentage increases, or the last quarter’s sales are up at least 25%.
5. Buy stocks with a return on equity of 17% or more. The best companies will show a return on equity of 25% to 50%.
6. Make sure the recent quarterly after-tax profit margins are improving and near the stock’s peak after-tax margins.
7. Most stocks should be in the top five or six broad industry sectors.
8. Don’t buy a stock because of its dividend or P/E ratio. Buy it because it’s the number one company in its particular field in terms of earnings and sales growth, ROE, profit margins, and product superiority.
9. Buy stocks with a relative strength of 85 or higher.
10. Any size capitalization will do, but the majority of your stocks should trade an average daily volume of several hundred thousand shares or more.
11. Learn to read charts and recognise proper bases and exact buy points. Use daily and weekly charts to materially improve your stock selection and timing. Buy stocks are they initially breakout out of sound and proper bases with volume for the day 50% or more above normal trading volume.
12. Carefully average up, not down, and cut every single loss when it is 7% or 8% below your purchase price with absolutely no exception.
13. Write out your sell rules that show when you will sell and nail down a profit in your stock.
14. Make sure your stock has at least one or two better-performing mutual funds who have bought it in the last reporting period. You want your stocks to have increasing institutional sponsorship over the last several quarters.
15. The company should have an excellent new product or service that is selling well. It should also have a big market for its product and the opportunity for repeat sales.
16. The general market should be in an uptrend and either favour small or big cap companies.
17. The stock should have ownership by top management.
18. Look for a “new America” entrepreneurial company rather than laggard, “old America” companies.
19. Forget your pride and ego; the market doesn’t know or care what you think. No matter how smart you think you are, the market is always smarter. A high IQ and a master’s degree are not guarantees of market success. Your ego could cost you a lot of money. Don’t argue with the market, and never try to prove you’re right and the market is wrong.
20. Watch for companies that have recently announced they are buying back 5% to 10% or more of their common stock. Find out if there is new management in the company and where it came from.
21. Don’t try to buy a stock at the bottom or on the way down in price, and don’t average down (If you buy at $40, don’t buy more if it goes to $35 or $30).
22. If the new appear to be bad but the market yawns, you can feel more positive. The tape is telling you that the underlying market may be stronger than many belief. On the other hand, if highly positive news hits the market and stocks give ground slightly, the tape analyst might conclude the underpinnings of the market are weaker than previously believed.
23. 37% of a stock’s price movement is directly tied to the performance of the industry group the stock is in. Another 12% is due to strength in its overall sector. Therefore, half of a stock’s move is due to the strength of its respective group.
