Marne Lynn Levine

 Marne Lynn Levine (born 1970) is an American businesswoman. She is the chief business officer at Meta Platforms (formerly Facebook, Inc.). Previously, she was the first chief operating officer of Instagram. She also served as a special assistant for economic policy to President Barack Obama and was the chief of staff for the National Economic Council.

Early life[edit]

Marne Lynn Levine is the daughter of Mark Levine, an ophthalmologist of Shaker Heights, Ohio, and Teri Levine.[1] She was born to Jewish parents and graduated from Laurel School in 1988.[2][3] She majored in political science and speech communications at Miami University in Ohio and graduated in 1992. In 2005, she graduated from Harvard Business School.[2]

Career[edit]

From 1993 to 2000, she worked at the United States Treasury Department on issues like the 1997 Asian financial crisis and predatory lending. She was chief of staff from 2001 to 2003 for Harvard University president Larry Summers.[4] From 2006 to 2008, she was a product manager at Revolution Money.[2] From 2009 to 2010, she served in the administration of President Barack Obama as the chief of staff for the National Economic Council and special assistant to the president for economic policy.[2][5]

Levine was vice president of global public policy for Facebook from 2010 to 2014,[6] when she became the first chief operating officer of Instagram.[7] In 2018, she became the vice president of global partnerships, business and corporate development for Facebook.[8] In June 2021, Levine was named chief business officer of Facebook, Inc. (subsequently renamed Meta Platforms).[9][5]
