IBD: Your three buckets — cyclical, stable and select growth — target stocks with very different traits. What's your aim there?
Vitrano: We want different kinds of growth stocks. So some are zigging while others are zagging. We have names that are quality, steady compounders. They're in our stable bucket, the core of the portfolio.
We also want companies that are in some turnaround mode. We're willing to look out several years to see their valuation creation. These are our cyclicals.
Lastly, we have companies with higher momentum — our select growth bucket.
The mix of the three helps us create a portfolio without as much volatility as other large-cap growth strategies.
