Samsung S6: Factory reset - Need the storage | Troubleshooting | My tracing log after factory reset on Sept 24, 2020

Samsung S6 phone - reset factory setting


I finally had time to work on Samsung S6 phone reset. The storage is 30 GB, and last few months I ran out of storage all the time, but I could not figure out how to find storage back. I decide to get factory reset. 


Here are highlights:


1. Download wechat photo to my USB drive first;

2. Login Samsung cloud, and find my 6 GB photos of Gallery app;

3. Ready to reset factory setting

4. Advice - There are over 25GB storage 

5. Do not connect to Samsung cloud - internal storage will take 7 GB - samsung cloud used space

6. Do not connect to Google drive or Google phone - it may take another 5 GB

7. Need to run strava app for my running, GPS app for my driving - offline map, wechat for my daily activities

8. Need to cut cost and time to maintain the mobile phone

9. Regularly backup photo using Samsung cloud - start to use it, I never used before. It is good product, I Should spend time to get familiar with it.

  1. Add Chinese language keyboard
  2. Download Skype app
  3. Download wechat app
  4. ...

No. 9, 2020 8.5 GB free  - using PowerDirect to record videos, 300 MB for one video. 
Feb. 3, 2021 install outlook, storage 5.9 GB, install wealthsimple app.

March 16, 2021 3GB free, installed Wealthsimple, thinkorswim, outlook, edge, teams, BC service card, reddit, edge, whatsapp, Twitter, Zoom, GoToWebinar, LinkedIn, PowerDirector, Seeking Alpha, Skype, Wechat, Youtube, 
Need to upload some videos and store in my own computer

Follow up on May 24, 2021

Storage only 500 MB, and I need to review what I have done, and work on the task to get storage space back. 

Ran wechat storage app, and released over 2 GB storage by deleting history from wechat groups. 
Wechat app takes 14 GB storage. 
  1. Click on the 'Me' man on the bottom menu

  2. Go to Settings > General > Manage Storage


Follow up on May 31, 2021

Need to get more storage, only 1300 MB available. 
Wechat app - biggest consumer of storage - 
storage used: 11.6 GB
chat history: 3.4 GB
Cache: 669.6 MB

Need to manual remove images from investment group, now it takes 2.3 GB
